If you are looking for an area that drives the imagination and delivers food and drink options, then this is the destination for you. Home to one of the UK's most celebrated children's authors, the Roald Dahl Museum will help fire your little one's imaginations and give them inspiration as budding authors. If the adults in your group are looking for quality drink options then a visit to a vineyard or distillery can be had here as well. Along with some beautiful walks, cosy pubs serving great locally produced meals, free museums and animal parks, what more could you want for your break, whether that is short or long? Discover this Area of Natural Beauty at your own pace from one of our Buckinghamshire cottages.
This might not be the most obvious destination for an award-winning winery, but Daws Hill Vineyard, located in the Chilterns AONB is a testament to the fact that small can be beautiful. Set in over 3 acres with over 5000 vines this small team produces outstanding English sparkling wine, traditional champagne, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Pre-book yourself on a tour and tasting session, from Spring onwards.
Many of the museums are free to enter, making this a great destination to entertain the kids whether on a short weekend break or longer summer holiday. One of the must-sees is the Bekonscot Model Museum, which is one of the oldest model villages. Operating for over 80 years, and spanning over 1.5 acres of beautifully kept gardens, this is a perfect place to while away a day with the family. Take a picnic with you as there are plenty of picnic tables available or pick up a bite to eat in their tearooms.
For all fans of the wonderful children's author Roald Dahl, a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden surely needs to be on your to-do list. Join in with free storytelling available on weekends and through school holidays or venture out on one of the free trails that inspired Mr Fox. If drawing rather than writing is more your thing, then head over to the Crafty Kitchen where you draw away to your heart's content! Picnics are welcome or pick up some snacks in their shop. Pre-booking is essential.
