With a prominent university, vibrant town centre, plenty of green spaces and easy transport links into London, Reading is great for a weekend getaway or short break in Berkshire. It's also home to the annual Reading Festival, one of the UK's largest music festivals. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Palmer Park, soak up some history at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), explore the historic ruins of Reading Abbey, or shop 'til you drop at The Oracle Shopping Centre. From peaceful riverside walks along the Thames Path and picnicking in Prospect Park to lively performances at the Hexagon Theatre and fine-dining at acclaimed restaurants, the town of Reading has something for everyone. We have a variety of holiday homes in the area to choose from, including luxury riverside apartments and cosy dog-friendly cottages. If you fancy a quieter break outside of town, consider one of our rural holiday lodges in Berkshire complete with your own private hot tub.
Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will fall in love with the breathtaking beauty of the Berkshire countryside, from woodland walks in an enchanted forest and waterside rambles along the River Thames, to hearty pub lunches in traditional villages and artisanal shopping in historic market towns. Explore picturesque trails in Wokefield Common nature reserve and Greenham Common; soak up quintessential English charm in pretty villages like Yattendon and Frilsham; or explore the landscaped gardens and grand interiors of National Trust properties like Basildon Park and Ashdown House. If you're looking for the perfect family day out for little ones, consider a trip to Beale Park near Pangbourne, on the banks of the River Thames. This year-round wildlife park and gardens is home to a variety of exotic small animals, reptiles and birds, and children can even interact with farm animals like goats, pigs and chickens. There's also a Birds of Prey exhibit, a children's play area with colourful and imaginative structures, and a model boating lake. So whether it's a romantic hot tub holiday, a family getaway or a solo adventure with your canine companion, our Berkshire holiday homes can cater to a range of tastes, budgets, ages and group sizes.
One of the most iconic attractions in the whole of Berkshire has to be the royal residence of Windsor Castle. Sitting on a chalk hill overlooking the River Thames in the historic town of Windsor, a visit to this 1000-year-old fortress is a great day out for history buffs and novices alike. Admire the opulent State Apartments, adorned with impressive artworks and furnishings, and visit St George's Chapel, burial place of monarchs including Henry VIII and Charles I. Surrounding the castle, you'll find the royal park of Windsor Forest (also known as Windsor Great Park), originally the hunting ground for William the Conqueror. Today, you can explore its ornamental gardens, ancient oak woodlands and picturesque Deer Park, where you can often spot herds of red deer roaming freely. The renowned Ascot Racecourse is only a short drive away. Nearby, one of the most popular local attractions for family fun and adventure has to be LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. The theme park features an abundance of attractions, rides and interactive play areas, plus plenty of impressive exhibits built using LEGO bricks. With a perfect combination of fun, adventure, history and culture, Windsor ticks plenty of boxes for a memorable Berkshire holiday.
