The outside of the house was scruffy and badly in need of painting. The inside was cramped and not suitable for four people. The kitchen was minute and cold. The double bed in one bedroom took up the whole room, and there was no room to get dressed. Poor quality bedding. Altogether had quite a neglected feel. We were very lucky with the weather which meant that we could get out and about, and were able to go into Hawkshead to eat. We certainly would not go back, and it was not value for money.

We just loved this quaint little cottage. We are artists and writers and I brought my daughter here for her 21st birthday whilst we were painting and writing our latest children’s book, ‘Lucy and the Lakes.’ It is in the most beautiful location next to the ancient old bobbin mill. It is remote, which we loved, but do stock up on food when you come. Although Hawkshead has a lovely local shop for grocery a few miles away. The cottage has no internet, but we were glad of no distraction for our book writing. We found there is some mobile signal up the hill if you drive out towards Hawkshead, but not in the cottage. We found the cottage lovely and warm and cosy and well equipped. It is a very old Lake District cottage and snug. Bring nice dvds and books as tv reception can be poor in the Lakes with the trees. You are near the spectacular Grizedale forest for taking a forest trail or a spectacular bike ride along the wooded tracks. You are also near Hill Top, Beatrix Potter and the lovely village of Hawkshead with pretty Lake District shops and tea rooms, all within a short drive. There is parking for one car only next to the cottage, as it is in a little row of other cottages. We just loved it and will be back again soon to finish our book before printing!

Lovely little cottage at the bottom of the Grizedale Forest. It does however have no mobile signal for most networks, but that makes it even better!

The outside of the cottage let's it down badly. The decoration is very poor, with paint pealing from all window joinery surfaces. Sash windows have broken catches and only partially work. It is a shame because it is comfortable inside.

Whilst situated in a very pretty location, this cottage was small to the point of discomfort. Not sure a large person could actually squeeze themselves into the space allowed for the toilet - between the wall and the shower; it's difficult not to bang your head on the bathroom shelf whilst leaning over the tiny sink: the double bedroom has a folding door as there is not sufficient space around the bed to shut it otherwise(!) and the double mattress has two sinking body-shaped craters. Other reviews suggested this previously mentioned mattress had been replaced but clearly not recently, unless the owner initiates use of all new mattresses with several large boulders! The cottage had been surface cleaned but was in need of a deep clean. Mouldy tea towel in the washing machine. Someone's sock under the bed. Sickly smell of freshener to disguise dog odour. We came here with our two teenage sons who were upbeat and humorous and made the best of their stay but this was a really disappointing return for our money. We didn't expect luxury for a lower priced cottage but any property commanding a rental charge should be equipped with a reasonable set of basics.

Our stay at your cottage was great :) My only suggestion for improvements would be to have WiFi and towels provided - our mobile phone signal was bad (nonexistent really) - but, it was nice to have no internet or calls whilst in the cottage ... peace. The neighbors were friendly, especially James and Lassie next door :) The back garden with the stream at the bottom was a lovely spot for my morning coffee. Plenty of space for our dog in the morning before heading out. There were some essentials like tea/coffee, washing machine tablets, loo-roll left from the previous occupant and we left ours in return. The cottage and bedding was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of space for us and would have stayed longer if we had been able to. There are plenty of good pubs for food nearby and a public footpath straight from the property which is nice. We both had a very relaxing time with our Labrador and would definitely consider staying again. Thank you to the owners very much for renting their cottage out to us.

They need to clean the fridge freezer out as fridge was not working properly. They need to empty the bins from previous clients as we had knowhere to store our bin outside. Other than that it was a lovely stay. Not quite in Satterthwaite, bit far out for us.

The cottage was acceptable but not as clean as one would expect. The kitchen, in particular, needs attention the oven was greasy and the freezer in need of defrosting. There is a spice rack on the wall, the best before dates on these go back as far as 2013. The linen and bedding was all clean
