    Comfort and Equipment

The cottage has a wonderful setting just outside the village of Potterne and is very quiet with lovely views across the surrounding countryside. The owners, Hazel and John, were very friendly and most attentive and helpful in providing advice on the various attractions of the region. The cottage was a little old fashioned and dark in its decoration, but very comfortable and clean and was well stocked with equipment that was in good condition. The second and third bedrooms were a little bit on the small side but since we were only a couple, this did not affect us unduly. The local pub was a disappointment but there were plenty of other nice places to eat out if you are prepared to drive outside Potterne. Since we had very good weather during our stay we opted to eat outside at home for a number of evenings. The location of the cottage proved to be a very good base for exploring the area and visiting many of the Wiltshire attractions including, Laycock Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral and town, Stonehenge, Avebury Manor and stone circle. We also greatly enjoyed the gardens at Stourhead and The Courts. Overall, we had a most enjoyable week in an area of England that we did not know particularly well, and probably will pay a return visit to the area in the future.

Apparently the area around Devizes is not very touristic. I don't understand why, because I think it is a very worthwhile location. The cottage was excellent. It's location a perfect base to visit this part of Wiltshire and the host was very kind to us. All in all we had a teemendous time there.

Fantastic location, and wonderful hosts. Local attractions (Stonehenge, Avebury, etc...) all nearby, and everything needed for the stay could be picked up in nearby Devizes. The hosts were friendly and helpful, kept the cottage toasty warm through the cold snap, and very welcoming. We stayed with our two little ones (ages two and five) without any problems--the cot was already set up for us when we arrived. Would happily recommend Abbotts Ball Farm--and hope to stay there again someday in the future, when the toddler's old enough to get more out of Longleat.

Abbotts Ball Farm is a comfortable cottage with a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need. The house is warm and pleasant, with loads of towels and bedding provided for the two comfortable double beds. Behind the cottage is a hill from which there are lovely views all around. Devizes is an interesting Georgian market town with good shops and places to eat or have coffee. The cottage isn't far from the Caen Hill Locks, which are quite spectacular and well worth a visit. A minor shame was that the local pub, the George and Dragon, was closed on Friday evening.

We had a very warm welcome from the owners. The accommodation was excellent, everything you needed, a home from home. Would definitely recommend and will return again.

Lovely stay at Abbotts Ball Farm. The cottage was clean and well-equipped. Wifi was a bit patchy but adequate. Hazel and John are very friendly and helpful and there are so many things to do in the area. Very dog-friendly - they can go into lots of pubs and cathedrals, which was wonderful. Peaceful location but easy to get to shops, pubs and takeaways. Would love to visit the area again.
