We had a wonderful stay at boatmans cottage. It was clean comfy and had everything we could want - apart from a tumble dryer and a local shop. Portessie is an extension of Buckie, but it was a good five mins by car to the nearest shop, so if you ran out of anything it was a bit of a rigmarole to pop out for milk. It was however an excellent base for touring all along the coast from inverness to Aberdeen. There are very regular buses with a stop right at the end of the lane. The nearby villages are gorgeous and it was a five men walk to the nearest beach. It was extremely quiet where we were which was wonderful, just what we wanted. The wifi was great, as long as you were downstairs. As one of the lovely write ups about the cottage said in places the walls were two foot thick, so getting wifi upstairs was difficult. The beds were comfy, the shower was amazing, the kitchen was well stocked. The recycling is a lesson in theoretical physics lol, but the fairies put them out on the right day so we didn't need to worry about that. The leaflets and books were great and the games were welcome. Our dog was well catered for and the throws that were provided were great. I would more than recommend boatmans cottage to anyone who likes to walk or doesn't mind driving to where they need to go. It really was a home from home, and the fantastic decor really makes it unique and interesting. 5 stars.

thoroughly enjoyed my week at Boatmans. Lots of walking and wildlife watching. Village shop was shut everytime I passed, but supermarkets in Buckie are only 5 mins down the road, and the Bijou by the Sea wasnt serving evening meals, so you couldnt eat out without driving (hence the 9 score). The house was warm, welcoming, spotless and home from home. Lots of walking without driving for miles. Would definitely stay there again

The owners have given great attention to detail in this lovely old cottage. We all had a very comfortable time and would have no hesitation of recommending this cottage to friends.
