This 250 year old cottage, part of the former parsonage for the rural village of Ings is the picture of all that is traditional here in Lakeland and the perfect little love nest for two. Within just minutes drive, the busier resorts of Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside can be explored although we are certain that much time will be spent either gazing out of the lounge window viewing the countryside or spent in the award winning country pub, The Watermill, 50 yards away. Staveley, just two miles South of Ings is a thriving village community and offers some fabulous walking in the Kentmere Valley as well as a variety of local trade workshops including wood turners, bakers and micro brewery. The area is also very popular with cyclists and storage is available at Burnthwaite Cottage.
The living space here at Burnthwaite Cottage has been deliberately created on the first floor to make best advantage of the view across meadow and to the countryside beyond. The ancient, thick walls with some exposed detail are a constant reminder of the past but with just a hint of contemporary styling throughout, the owners have successfully married 20th Century living in an 18th Century cottage.

Lovely comfortable cottage. Good location to visit all the Lake District has to offer. Nearly everywhere was dog friendly.

The cottage is a beautiful little gem but my only slight gripe is the off road parking is very cramped for our estate car.

I stayed in the cottage in 2015. I now am 77 & less agile! Perhaps it should be mentioned in the description that the stairs are very steep. But I nearly was stranded in the shower because the side of the tub is high. A wall handle may have been a help both to get & out of it. Ings is great for a dog because of the proximity of the fields off the gated road for exercise. And the Watermill Inn at the end of the street is more than just dog-friendly!

Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location. Wish there was a bit of cornered garden area to let my dog out but wouldn’t stop me from visiting this cottage again. 10/10

The only niggle against the cottage is that you do not have a back door to let the dog out into a garden, apart from that it is excellent

Lovely, cosy cottage. Good location for visiting the southern lakes. Nice gesture of milk, coffee and biscuits in the kitchenette. Parking a little tight. Bath water not terribly hot, but shower lovely. Would stay here again.

Just returned from a week at the cottage. Was in an excellent location, pub down the road, coffee shop and petrol station selling anything you’d need. Was just off the A591 and therefore easy to access all areas of the Lake District, but was really quiet and peaceful at night. The cottage had everything we needed, kitchen well equipped, lovely shower, comfy bed and lovely relaxing lounge to recover from our walking. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
