In the very heart of the Lake District National Park and at the foot of the beautiful Langdale Valley sit Carr Crag Lodge, a detached Lakeland residence enjoying a superb, peaceful location only a short drive from Ambleside and Grasmere. A wealth of activities are literally on the doorstep from this refurbished, traditional home including walking, cycling and sailing, from gentle strolls up Loughrigg Fell and her nearby Tarn to more challenging treks into the Langdales. This area of the Lakes has many romantic literary connections and the former homes of Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and Ruskin are within easy reach of Carr Crag Lodge and well worth a visit either by car or by way of the local Mountain Goat or Stagecoach Bus Companies.
Carr Crag Lodge is a rather special home, the place to make happy holiday memories with close family or lifelong friends and one word sums up the accommodation here; quality. Every detail has been exquisitely executed to create a thoroughly modern ambience whilst not detracting from the obvious character of such a traditional Lakeland property. Muted shades of greens and creams are beautifully married with the odd splash of accent colours, the social dining area arranged around the huge open fireplace, the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely dinner together and mull over the day’s events and plan the next. The three bedrooms are individually themed with excellent beds and quality linens to ensure a good night’s rest, particularly for those walkers among you whilst the extensive gardens are perfect for meals alfresco, afternoon BBQ or even a game of footie or chase with the family pet - weather dependent of course!

Absolutely no complaints, issues or problems during our stay. Visited the lakes so many times over the years and Carr Crag cottage is definitely in my top three places to stay. Couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone who wants to enjoy the Langdale fells. Plenty to do on your doorstep. But also ideally located to visit borrowdale or buttermere Could go on all day, but we had a great week so I’m still buzzin. Fab place 5 *

Great holiday cottage that I would thoroughly recommend. Only slight negative was that the water in the shower was sometimes cold, not sure why this was. Also the radiators didn’t seem to turn off completely and as we stayed during a very warm week the house was sometimes too warm at night when trying to get to sleep. Other than those things the property was lovely.

Beautiful cottage, lovely setting, great for getting out. Car parked on the drive for four days as we walked from the house on some great 3 to 4 hour walks followed by a cake and tea in Chester’s!

We have stayed at this cottage twice now and I have to say both times it’s been excellent. The kitchen is really well equipped with plenty of crockery. The lounge areas and bedrooms are all very comfortable. The dog has enjoyed the fully enclosed garden. The Talbot Inn just down the road serves good food and Chester’s is a must visit even if it’s just for some bread and a takeaway coffee. Lots of decent walks from the cottage so you don’t have to worry about finding parking spaces. We are hoping to visit again soon.

This is a great property in a lovely location. Unfortunately the property was not clean and some of the equipment needs updating or replacing.

Our second visit to Carr Crag Lodge - both times in mid December. The cottage is cosy for a winter break and well-equipped. Bedding and towels etc are all of a good quality. The location means it's possible to take walks directly from the front door and on return there is plenty of space for drying damp clothing and boots. Very minor points - please provide matches or gas lighter for the fire in the main living room; it would also be nice to have some toiletries provided for the bathrooms (or at least forewarn guests that they should bring their own).

What a lovely cottage, it was perfect for our winter break. Cosy and warm in the evening with the fire on. Great location, many different walks straight from the door! It was so quiet, all we could hear from outside was the waterfall. We cannot wait to come back and stay at Carr crag lodge again

Overall we had a nice short break at Carr Crag Lodge, there were a couple of areas where we have marked the rating down slightly - The lodge was very close to the main road and the garden overlooked it directly with a low wire fence which was quite busy & noisy during the day. The main bathroom shower did not look like it had been cleaned and the floor tiles also needed a good going over, particularly around the bath & door area in the corners. There also weren't any sample toiletries upon arrival which is unusual for a rental cottage of this standard and price - not sure if the housekeeper just hadn't replaced them...

Our second visit, which says it all. We love the house. The drive takes some getting used to and the smallest bedroom is a bit tight, but there were only 4 of us so fine. Could do with a lock on the downstairs loo. But overall, great.

Fantastic location, wonderful property however cleanliness in areas was poor, broken items, no recycling bins. Made use of the large garden, loved listening to the waterfall and enjoyed the local walks.
