Packed with history this charming property was formerly two cottages which have been in the family for over 100 years. It has been lovingly renovated to a good standard and makes an excellent base for exploring this wonderful coastline of sandy beaches and rugged coves. For dogs the owner provides pet beds and bowls. The area is steeped in fishing history and the first Arbroath Smokie was said to have been produced in Auchmithie and has now become a speciality of the area. These delicacies can be purchased in the excellent fish shops in the harbour area of Arbroath just a couple of miles away. The pebbly bay below Auchmithie is marked at one end with sheer sandstone cliffs punctuated by caves making it popular with smugglers in past times. Arbroath is within easy reach with plenty of shops and eateries and there is much to do for the visitor here and in the surrounding area take a boat trip round the Bell Rock Lighthouse visit Arbroath Abbey or enjoy the magnificent beaches at Lunan Bay and Montrose. There’s also plenty of wildlife to see from the magnificent sights of thousands of pink footed geese at the Montrose Basin to dolphins porpoises and ospreys. Inland the renowned Angus Glens are superb for walkers. For more cosmopolitan days out the city of Dundee is within a short drive where you will find plenty of restaurants cafés pubs and shops and worth a visit is the V A Museum of Design. Beach 300 yards. Shop and pub 3 miles restaurant 300 yards. " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/106/840/10602267.jpg UK5892

Lovely dog friendly cottage on the cliff above a pretty bay with pebble beach. Owner very helpful, welcome pack and everything you could need is there for you. No amenities in village itself. We didn’t visit pub which has shorter opening hours but been told food is nice there. An ideal base to visit Aberdeen, Dundee and Pitlochry.

The whole experience from communication with the owner to our stay was excellent. The cottage was well stocked with everything you could need. The welcome pack was ample. It was comfortable, well equipped and well decorated. We will definitely be interested in returning to stay again.

Creel Cottage is two fishermen's cottages made into one. It is very well decorated, with good quality furniture, comfortable beds and is spotlessly clean. The welcome pack is the best I have ever seen - lovely to be able to have a coffee and a piece of cake before needing to go food shopping. Laura, the owner is lovely, her attention to detail is amazing - dog biscuits, dog and beach towels provided, even games and books. The layout did not really suit us because the 2 bedrooms are at opposite ends of the cottage, so quite far apart, although clearly great for couples sharing, not so great for families with children. Good sized rooms, bedrooms and living room are large and very nicely decorated. We had problems the first day with the keys, difficult to open both doors and then when re returned we could not open either door. Luckily the spare keys are with the neighbour across the road who seeing we were having difficulty, very kindly came over with the spares which worked. The rest of the week we used the spare kitchen door key and did not have any further problems. Laura also oiled the door the following day while we were out. During the early hours of Wednesday morning, 1.48am, everyone was waken up by parked half on the narrow pavement outside the bedroom window, very loud, made our dog bark and upset my son. They drove off when I knocked on the window. The street gets busy in the evenings with several small transit vans, although we did manage to park our small car each day and there is a carpark further down the road. There is a stone beach nearby, assessed by fairly steep steps, the beach is beautiful and great for walking the dog each morning. We visited Dundee which is only about 40 minutes away, the V&A is well worth visiting, along with the Discovery and information Centre. Dundee is great for shopping, the River Tay waterfront is ideal for walking dogs. We also visited House of Dunn (NTS) which is only 30 minutes away, house is by guided tour only, its a good idea to book. Further away, over an hour is Drum Castle (NTS) again a great day out and house is by guided tour only. Dogs are welcome in the grounds. Lunan Beach is only 20 minutes away, this is a really lovely sandy beach with free parking and dog friendly. We were really lucky with the weather, Creel Cottage is warm and cozy, great for games evenings and family time. The attention to detail is really impressive and deserving of extra mention. Laura is a lovely owner, who its clear cares about providing a lovely clean and welcoming cottage. Thank you, Laura. I've recommended the cottage to friends.
