We had a fantastic few days at Criffel Lodge. The lodge is situated perfectly to make the best of the local area. The lodge Is very clean and cosy, it would have been absolutely perfect if it had direct access to the enclosed garden for dogs rather than needing to to take them round the side on a lead. There are lots of great places in the area to explore and lots of beautiful wildlife to see.

Lovely lodge & a very warm & welcome from John & Sandra . Couldn't do enough for us. With high chair & some toys. only thing was had to out in car to do walks. But lots of beautiful walks around.

Fantastic warm cosy lodge, very well equipped, friendly owners and excellent location for exploring Dumfries and Galloway

A lovely and well equipped pine lodge in a fairly remote rural setting (though everything you need is in Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas, each about 6 miles away). The owners are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. A very welcome feature (and pretty rare for a rented cottage) is that the fairly large garden is completely secure for dogs, so our cairn terrier was able to enjoy the same extended unsupervised sessions in the open air that he'd get at home. The area is lovely (though Highlands & Islands it ain't) with beautiful forest, loch-side and coastal walks a short drive away. However, the best "entertainment" of all is a 10 yard walk out of the front door. The night sky is extremely dark, so go out, let your eyes adjust, and take in a view of the night sky that you don't often see in much of the country. A number of objects that I struggle to see with binoculars at home were just about visible with the naked eye and the view through binoculars was quite breathtaking. All you need is clear skies!

Criffel lodge was cosy and comfortable, everything you could need, a home from home, (I could quite happily live there). Gorgeous views, lovely spacious gardens, and covered porch, our two little woofs loved it. Very peaceful, just birds tweeting, and the odd cow mooing, we found it very relaxing. Rooms all spacious, and toasty warm. Owners John and Sandra, very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful, and kindly left us a bottle of wine. Would definitely love to holiday at Criffel lodge again.

Very well equipped kitchen, although the dining table was a little small. Beautiful scenery, peaceful garden secure for dogs. Lots of activities around the area. Perfect Lodge if you just want to chill and switch off from your hectic day to day life.

Lovely, characteristic log cabin with nice garden and beautiful view. Great walks nearby.Good food available in Kirkcudbright. Great area for cycling. Best thing was Raiders Road in Galloway Forest park and John taking us to see his Belted Galloway cattle. Thanks very much.

This is a very tranquil venue with the sound of the Sheep and cows the only thing to disturb the peace. It is also very well placed to explore the Galloway forest area, and the town of Kirkcudbright was particularly good with lots of local activities to enjoy. A splendid holiday for all the Family.
