This charming Grade II listed property dates back to the 17th-century and is located only a few yards from the entrance to Alnwick Castle home to the Duke of Northumberland. The property is accessed via a private doorway on Narrowgate where a small passageway leads to its independent entrance. The accommodation is well presented over the first and second floors of the property and is stylishly furnished throughout. The adorable arched door leads to three steps then a further eight to the first floor where there is a bright and airy open plan living space there is also a bathroom and bedroom which overlooks a delightful courtyard. Further stairs leads up to the second floor where there is a king size bed nestled within beautiful original solid beams and views to the castle.Although the owner’s do not provide a cot guests are welcome to bring their own.\n\nDorothy Forster and her brother Tom originally lived in Bamburgh Castle which had been owned by the Forster family from the 16th century. During the Jacobite Rebellion Tom enlisted to fight for the Stuart cause and was captured and put in Newgate Goal London. In a daring plan Dorothy disguised as a servant travelled to London and using a duplicate key helped her brother escape and he fled to France. Dorothy arranged for a coffin to be filled with sawdust and placed in the family vault at Bamburgh to outwit the authorities. After Tom’s death in 1738 his body was returned to England and laid to rest in St Aidan’s Church in Bamburgh and Dorothy was buried alongside him.\n\nThere is a wide array of amenities including a cinemaplayhouse restaurants independent shops and a variety of pubs available within a gentle stroll from Dorothy Forster Court. Alnwick Castle the film location for ’Harry Potter’s Hogwarts’ is a popular visitor attraction or visit the Alnwick Gardens a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden including a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden. Visitors can also dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe. Dorothy Forster Court is an excellent choice for those seeking a unique base that gives easy access to explore the beautiful 20 mile stretch of Heritage Coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and the wild and lonely expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west. This is a beautiful, peaceful and tastefully decorated place to stay. It is equipped with everything you might need and lovely and warm (we stayed at the end of February). We loved it and we were sad to leave! It is also in the heart of Alnwick as well so you can walk to everything. And Alnwick is well served by a bus which takes you up or down the coast. We will be back!

Great place to stay! Perfect location for wandering around Alnwick, although slightly noisy due to single paned windows but it didn’t bother us as we were out and about a lot. The boiler broke on the first night of our stay but the owners were brilliant, coming to try and fix it themselves then getting the engineer out as soon as possible then giving us some financial recompense- they couldn’t do enough to help. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and very generous. Period features of the property were lovely, made it a very quirky place to stay. Really clean and excellent facilities. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

This beautifully renovated characterful flat is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped. It is located in central Anwick opposite the castle, with easy access to the Northumberland coast. We spoke to the owner (Jacky) before arrival, and she was very helpful and friendly. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

Wow, wow, wow! Beautiful accommodation right in the centre of Alnwick. Felt so homely and comfortable, my son wants to move in permanently. The welcome basket was hugely appreciated, the linen and towels were soft and lovely and the place was comfortably immaculate. We will most definitely be back!

The flat was comfortable, clean and well equipped. It was ideally situated to make the most of the town’s amenities. The welcome basket was a lovely thought and much appreciated. I loved the quirkyness of the place. It was the ideal base to explore this fascinating and beautiful county. I would certainly recommend this place to family and friends.

Only disappointment was female hygiene products still in bin and a couple of dishes in cupboard not clean... Probably related to previous occupant but didn't spoil our holiday.
