Kestrel Cottage is very well decorated, clean and extremely well equipped. The owner is onsite and is very helpful and caring. There is lots of car parking space and a small garden with seating and an umbrella. The views from the cottage were very rural and there was a good pub within a mile with a large variety of food. There are a lot of days out in the area and we had a varied and interesting week. We visited Seaham and Crimdon on the coast, Souter lighthouse(National Trust) and cliff walks, Hartlepool Royal Navy Museum with an old warship and demonstrations (at the weekend), Cragside (National Trust) where they first powered electric lighting, Beamish Museum, Washington Old Hall (National Trust) where George Washington’s Ancestors lived and Durham where we parked at the Park and Ride, visited Durham Cathedral, had a tour around the castle and walked by the river. A wonderful week had all round.
Fantastic cottage and a wonderful owner... Highly recommended.
What a lovely cottage and situation. We loved seeing the goats and lamas and one day saw some fledging swallows and a flock of young goldfinches. Jean and Amy are so helpful and on hand if you need anything. We hadn't been to County Durham before but found lots to do. Beamish museum was brilliant and we saw a red squirrel at Derwent reservoir and picked up sea glass at Seaham as well as having an ice cream sundae!
Wonderful area. Very welcoming owners. Always there if we needed anything. Will go back

Kestral Cottage, as well as the other two cottages are suitable for disabled users and is a great central position to explore many towns and attractions in the North East.
The location is in a quite, pleasant, secure area, and with this you really need a car to get to places.
The cottage was fully equip with everything you would need, including a lovely arrival basket ( eggs, bread, butter, milk, jam, coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, and refreshing bottle for those who indulge )
The owners Jean and Amy were very helpful and if you needed anything they would try to sort it for you (although we couldn't think what else would be needed for these cottages.)
A lovely time was had and would recommend to everyone.
Always keep you camera handy while resting on the patio as curlew and chicks nesting or the odd owl may be spotted.
