Walkers and cyclists can enjoy traffic-free routes along the High Peak and Tissington Trails, plus the 8-mile track circling the reservoir. Head for Carsington Water for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing and bird watching.
A mile down the hill lies the historic market town of Wirksworth with plentiful cafés, pubs and small independent shops. It boasts a couple of restaurants and its very own bijou cinema. The narrow alleyways and distinctive architecture make it well worth exploring on foot. Visit the Wirksworth Heritage Centre to learn more about its fascinating past. There is a produce market every Tuesday and a farmers’ market once a month. Annual events include Wirksworth Well Dressings in May and the September Arts Festival.
