Very dirty and damp. Very small beds. Left a day early.

Had a lovely holiday, pf course we did we were in the lake district! But would not go back to this cottage. The photos of little knott certainly must be old ones as it is a lot more dated, dirty and tired now. Comfort and Equipment; The kitchen was well stocked and had everything needed pots pans crockery etc even a cafetiere although it was a small freezer and for a family of 6 and a £60 butchers bill before we headed for the cottage the food would not all fit ! So I would not recommend you get your meat for the week before you go and only get a couple of bits. The fridge was dirty on arrival which was off putting. Comfort wise the downstairs had a lot of damp in the bedrooms and bathroom, the back bedroom bed was damp so not great to sleep on, it was very hot that week and needed to put the heater to dry and dry it out. Sofas were comfy enough but dropped my pen and found Lord knows how much muck down there. Wasn't pleasant. It is also worth mentioning the stairs, the stairs are not suitable for older people or anyone with any kind of mobility issues but I'm sure the advert does state this. The shower was the same as a one we had in the 90s and water comes out very slowly. Location; Stunning views and loved the seclusion of it but the busy road we had to reverse out of was a downfall as it is on a slight bend and can be dangerous to reverse out of. Did not notice the traffic noise though even when sitting in the garden as it is such beautiful scenery. Easy driving distance to coniston, Windermere etc. Cleanliness; In all of the cottages we have been to, I have never been to one so dirty. The bin in the kitchen was full of the previous peoples' rubbish with a greasy dirty lid and it stunk. The fridge was dirty and because it is an old cottage it seems therefore appropriate not to feel the need to dust. The previous dogs hairs were all over, I'm sure the white dog was lovely but I did not like it's hairs. The kitchen floor was dirty and there was grease all over the kitchen walls. On the first night we killed 50 flies from the kitchen alone and after around 3 days one of us cleaned the kitchen bin (it was disgustingly filthy and not what we wanted to do on our hols) which helped reduce the flies. Truly this was a very dirty cottage. Amenities; A local pub 0.9 miles away, the food was not homemade i.e oven chips etc but very friendly and a lovely atmosphere. As most places in the lakes there will be a drive to go to whatever destination you want. This was in a good spot to get to the main areas. A little local post office with a shop a few miles along in Greenodd with a canny little fish and chip shop. Value for money; Would rather have paid a couple of hundred pounds more for a cottage that was clean, where the fridge was clean, the kitchen bin emptied and clean, the floors clean and dusted! To be honest it needs a good clean out I am not sure if the owners are aware of it but they need to be as we would definitely NOT go back to this cottage with the hundreds of other ones to choose from. Which is a shame as I am sure with some effort this could be lovely.

Quirky and lovely cottage in some respects but tiny bedrooms and right next to a very noisy road in daytime. Moved on to much bigger and cheaper property in Keswick this week.

Paying for the electric is a downside to the property especially as no shops close by!

Excellent basic holiday cottage, does everything we need.

It suited our family and dog for a week, the kitchen was well equipped, bedrooms rather tired looking and needed a good clean and bed linen was grey.Great location for exploring the lake Coniston area.

We had a lovely time and would recommend this holiday if you're active and don't have any mobility issues. The electricity meter is thirsty and we spent a lot of pound coins making sure all the lights worked. Also as the stairs don't have any handrails or ledges to lean on, it caused a problem for me as I am disabled. But the house is lovely and we all enjoyed it.

Was very warm and cosy with the wood burner. Beautiful old cottage with stunning views. Loved the creaky old stairs. Would definitely go back. X
