Very peaceful area, beautiful views. Lovely cottage. A lack of hooks and shelving in the wet room. Instructions on using the Velux windows would be helpful, if you are not used to them you could break them by accident. The owner was a lovely lady and very friendly when we met her on the Sunday.

Maddy is ideally situated for travelling and exploring the moors and surrounding villages. Just ten minutes by car or thirty minutes walk outside the village of Castleton where the local Co-op, tea room and The Downe Arms public house are situated. Just on the outskirts is the Eske Inn where home cooked foods are served along with excellent ales. If views and food are on your list then a trip out on the moors to Blakey Ridge is a worthwhile experience for dramatic views and a visit to the Lion Inn for a drink and food. The Lion Inn boasts to be the highest pub on the North Yorkshire Moors. Whitby, Staithes, Runswick bay are approximately 12-15 miles away on the coast and if wildlife is your thing Scaling Dam reservoir is a must with a bird hide and an excellent circular walk around the reservoir. Maddy Cart is within spitting distance of the moors where Red Grouse, Meadow Pipits, Kestrel, Pheasant, Yellow Wagtail and Sparrowhawk can be seen regularly from the roadside that cuts through the heather.

Don't expect the 'comforts' of home such as internet or mobile signal but if you want to get away from it all and relax this is the place to go. Wonderful views in a remote but secure area and peace and quiet to recharge your batteries. Perfect for walkers and cyclists alike but mind the sheep!

Beautilful setting for cottage. Local amenities are very poor if planning to eat out you are very limited without travelling miles to find a decent pub or even a shop to buy provisions.Kitchen in cottage is designed for wheelchair users so very low for able bodied people to use.Very hot as we couldn't have door open because of mosquitoes swarming perhaps a screen would be a good idea.

Lovely location and at last a place we're my husband could get himself in and out in his wheelchair. Peaceful pretty location. Owner was lovely. Would be better if it had a patio door in lounge area. We will go back health permitting. My little dog loved it.

I lovely place to stay. Very peaceful and the owner was Very pleasant and helpful. And a big thankyou for posting my shaving charger plug back to me at no extra cost. We would happily visit again! Whitby is only 17 miles away and is accessible via the local rail service only a mile from the cottage. And very reasonable price and a nice scenic train journey! Thankyou once again. There is also many games in the barn for children and adults to enjoy plus some lovely local walks and a co op a mile from the cottage.
