The convenient location means Minehead town centre and its sandy beach are within walking distance, and the dramatic coast and moorland countryside is all a short drive away. Minehead station is within walking distance, so guests can sit back and enjoy a journey through the Exmoor countryside on the West Somerset Vintage Railway. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coast Path or inland on the moors, and many places to visit to make a memorable holiday. A trip to the Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge, National Trust, the Valley of Rocks and the funicular cliff railway are all highly recommended. Looking towards Minehead there is the promenade to enjoy a walk and an ice cream, as well as a good array of shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants and other amenities. A visit to the enchanting medieval Dunster Castle (National Trust), with its beautiful terraced gardens, deer park and working watermill, will make for an interesting day out. Porlock village and Weir hold plenty of charm and interest, including local oysters in season. Guests receive a copy of the owner’s own walking book with plenty of suggestions of places to visit and treks of all lengths.
Next door you will find The Old Sweet Shop (ref UKC3164) which has been sympathetically restored to maximise the cottage’s space, light and historical features. Sleeping up to 8 guests, charm of the outside is reflected in the well-appointed and beautifully presented interior. This includes thick stone walls, a fabulous fireplace that now houses a large wood burner, exposed beams, a semi-circular staircase and leaded-light window seats. They sit perfectly alongside the high-quality fabrics and furnishings, kitchen and utility room with large dining table and modern appliances to offer guests every comfort. VisitEngland Five Star Gold Rated.
And to the left of the cobbled driveway is Stone Barn (ref UKC3594), a converted barn sleeping up to 6 guests. Architect designed, it has been beautifully restored with two bedrooms downstairs, whilst the living room, dining room (with extendable dining table), kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom are upstairs, where you can enjoy the distant views to Exmoor. It also boasts a hot tub (bring your own towels) and an enclosed garden. VisitEngland Five Star Gold Rated.
These three properties can be booked together as a pair (for instance Stone Barn and The Old Sweet Shop/Pilgrim Corner to sleep 14) or as a trio to sleep 22.
