No smoking.\n\n This deceptively spacious semi-detached old fisherman’s cottage is set just off the harbour in the centre of Craster. Dating back to 1890 it is tucked away only a stone’s throw from the sea. It has a tiered garden which is detached from the property about 30 yards away with views to the sea and harbour. The coastal path leads to Dunstanburgh Castle and onto the sandy beaches at Embleton. Brimming with character and sprinkled with family antiques this holiday cottage provides a homely and welcoming base to explore this magnificent coastline and beyond. Craster is steeped in tradition and centred on the ‘picture-postcard’ harbour where visitors should try the smoked Craster kippers from the smokery or the local pub. The coastline and inland is peppered with friendly villages and castles where visitors will find they have to return to enjoy what is reputedly the most unpopulated and unspoilt county in England. Shop pub and restaurant 500 yards. " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/803/840/803165.jpg 29520

This was the fifth time we’ve stayed at Rowan Cottage and once again we’ve had a lovely time. It’s a real home from home, not luxurious, but cosy and comfy. We will be back next year.

Rowan Cottage is a gorgeous cottage just behind the cottages on the the harbour in Craster. The facilities are great and the decor is in keeping with a traditional cottage. We had a lovely chill out week there and it is in a great location for walks to Dunstanborough Castle.

An excellent home from home cottage.

What an amazing family Christmas we had at Rowan Cottage. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and the cottage was a true home-from-home with a cupboard full of useful items - tea and coffee, salt & pepper - plus every piece of kitchen equipment you could need (except a pizza roller, but we can completely forgive that!) Despite starting off a little chilly, due to being empty for a while presumably, the central heating and log fire soon warmed things up. The cottage became cosy and homely, allowing us to make the most of the walk up to the castle and on to the beach at Embleton. Craster is a delight, with a good pub and charming harbour. It’s easy to explore Alnwick (where you’ll find a supermarket), Amble and other parts of Northumberland. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for more from a rental cottage and would love to return.

We had a lovely stay in Rowan Cottage. Although it is not on the seafront it is very near, it also has the added bonus that visitors are not continually walking by. The cottage itself is comfortable and well equipped and felt very homely. We will certainly consider staying again in the future. Our dog settled in immediately so what better testimony could there be.

A spacious, exceptionally clean cottage which was very well equipped. Great selection of dvds and games for wet weather. Beds were very comfortable. We used the garden for barbecuing fresh fish from Craster. It's easy to access from the garden, though doesn't have a boundary with next door, so difficult if you have kids or a dog. The house is adorned with family antiques and pictures, which you will either love or hate; the dining room in particular felt a little formal for a family to use.

This holiday was impaired by being greeted with instructions about a leaking window and the promise that it would be fixed during the week. We were therefore always on tenterhooks, waiting for the repair person who did not turn up. Despite heavy rain, there was no leak so assume that the repair had already been made. Also, the washing line was broken and unusable and had a big plant growing up through it. Fortunately, our neighbours allowed us to use their line. The front door was warped and we had considerable difficulty in opening it. All problems which could have been easily fixed - the owners need to take a little more control. Can't say that we particularly liked the photos and Christian iconography either.

Little things thought about in this cottage. Comfortable beds and sofas, salt and pepper even. Good size cottage. Lovely location.

We have visited Rowan Cottage every summer for the last 14 years, so I guess it could be said that we like it, a lot.
