It truly could not have a better location. The stunning view can be enjoyed all year round from the comfort of the garden summer house. With patio doors leading from the living room right to the decking there are no shortage of vantage points to watch the waves crashing against the rocks. Both bedrooms are rear facing which means you can drift off to sleep whilst listening to the sea right outside the window. Johnshaven is a quaint little village on the North East Coast of Scotland approx a 15-minute drive from both Stonehaven and Montrose. Famous for both fishing and its harbour it is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy a coffee whilst taking in the magnificent views.\nThe yearly Johnshaven Fish Festival is a popular event which is a celebration of the villages place in the local maritime history. The Johnshaven Heritage Museum is certainly also worth a visit. Once you have explored the local seafront then you can venture further afield to Dunnottar Castle which is around 12 miles away. Be sure to stop in Catterline for a spot of rockpooling or a bite to eat in the local inn. \nBoth Aberdeen and Dundee are within 1 hours drive. Beach 100 yards. Shop pub and restaurant ¼ mile. This was our second visit to this fabulous cottage and again it did'nt disappoint. The sun shone every day so the bench and garden chairs were well used! The view from the cottage was again our highlight and this time we saw a pod of dolphins skimming up towards Goudon. We ate at the Anchor Hotel and all three of us had our greedy heads on, as the food was so good and the service low key and efficient. We ate fish nearly everyday which we bought from the wee fishmongers at Gourdon pier. The giant fishcakes are awfully good and the fish so fresh we carted a lot back with us. The cottage itself is awesome and at some point we shall return. See our Sep review for other thoughts,

A lovely little cottage in a fantastic location with uninterrupted views of the sea.

The location is perfect. The cottage itself is home from home. Very comfortable and maintained to a very high standard. The decor and furnishing is excellent. We rent a great deal and this is one of the best we've stayed at. Communication with the owner was first rate.

View from cottage of the sea is fabulous. Village has a good tearoom and a hotel with a great food menu including fresh fish/shellfish. Also has a great coastal walk.
    Nothing I didn't like

This cottage was easy to locate and in a very scenic and beautiful small village with friendly inhabitants. It was extremely clean and very well equipped and had the most outstanding views of the Aberdeenshire North Sea coast line. The owner had put together a very comprehensive book about the cottage, how the heating worked, where to find everything plus local places to eat, visit etc. It was the best introduction to a cottage I have had in the 20 years I have been renting them. I would highly recommend Seashore Retreat to family and friends or anyone wanting a quiet seaside holiday in an upmarket property.

This is our favourite cottage of all time and we have stayed in loads. Huge kitchen diner, very comfy beds and permanently toasty! We could not understand a previous comment about the decor when you have such a brilliant vista from the lounge! We never had the TV on as there was so much to see from the patio doors and on the decking and we could always find a sheltered spot from most wind directions. From a gannet feeding frenzy to a stoat and a resident bunny we watched loads more from the decking. The crab/lobster wholesaler on the harbour will sell you these things, either fresh or cooked and I was treated like a pal even though I only bought 3 crabs ! Top marks to these guys. Two top butchers Montrose and Stonehaven, bakers in Montrose and usual Co-ops most places. We rated the local purvy very highly so we cooked in-house all the time apart from the fish supper in Gourdon- try it! We had a Haar one day but we really want to experience a storm! For us there were absolutely no negatives. Sorry to rant on but we really loved this wee cottage!

Clean, warm, well laid out. Cracking views out to sea.
Parking advertised as being for up to 2 vehicles. Parking in front of shed seems to be taken by a local resident. The other space is severely limited by a lamp post reducing manoeuvring room around residents cars.

Beautiful location;. comfortable and spacious and everything needed for a self catering holiday. Can walk for miles both ways from the house; complete peace and quiet - just how I like my holidays! My negative is the carpet in the bathroom! Please, please replace with an impervious floor covering as soon as the house is free for a weekend. Perhaps, next revamp, modernise the colours to reflect current times - colours dated. However, clean and comfortable
