Appledore is a hidden gem and the waterside location of this cottage is something special. Only downsides are 3/4 bed is rather small for 2 adults and 1 shower for 6 requires organisation! No car parking space and public car park is a 5 min walk, but weekly ticket available for £16 summer 2019 so not too expensive. Lots to do in the area. Went sailing, walking with Alpacas, RHS Rosemore, cliff walk and Exmoor zoo, among other things.

Shore waters is a lovely location and the cottage is well equipped. We have a thirteen and ten year old and they loved crabbing from the balcony. Appledore has everything that you need and is incredibly friendly and a foodies paradise. We had such a lovely time there. Westward Ho! Was great for bodyboarding and the Milky Way was a great day out for the family. The down side was a cottage a couple of doors up is being gutted and totally done up so all through the day there was constant banging and high speed tools on the go and I also had to close the doors on the balcony due to the language coming from the builders. (This is not the owners fault and these things happen) The Bathroom downstairs is very cramped and we read that it was to be re done and is a little tired and could do with some TLC. There were a number of bulbs blown and not replaced on our arrival and the previous visitors had not left the wheelie bin unlocked so we had to store our rubbish bags until the next collection. As this is a fisherman’s cottage the stairs are very steep so be careful. Although these are the negatives we had, the pros certainly outweighed them. It really is an idyllic cottage and location. We would certainly re visit if the chance arose. Appledore captivates you with its charm and so does the cottage. There are certainly some quirky and eccentric houses in Appledore which we loved. There is no sea side chintz, but classy delicatessens and shops. If people mention about the parking negatives, there are none! Little exercise never goes amiss. It was very logical and makes sense. Unload and load the car on arrival and departure outside the cottage and then park in the public car park. Simple! Thank you for letting us use the cottage and we would certainly like to return.

Had a wonderful time, the views are amazing and the position of the cottage is perfect to enjoy them. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Our son-in-law and daughter visited for a couple of nights but found the second bed too small to sleep comfortably in unfortunately. I had seen in a previous review that the bathroom was going to be upgraded during the winter season so we were a bit disappointed that this hadn’t been done as, whilst everything works fine, it does need some tlc. We absolutely loved Appledore and didn’t want to leave.

It was a beautiful property and a wonderful holiday. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, being right on the water was such a treat and it was such a difference to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves lapping just outside. The locals were so friendly as well. Best family break yet

Unbeknownst to me, and having started at the wrong end of Appledore's esplanade, I found myself at the front door next to the 'cottage' I had stayed in with my son a few years ago ! Forget 'fisherman's cottage' and think Homes and Gardens. Upon opening the door you will look into a world of elegant tones, wonderful views and everything you might need to make your stay enjoyable. Having the river, in high tide, lapping against your holiday home is sheer bliss . Blessed as I was with sunny days and just the call of the birds breaking a relaxing silence, I could not have wished for more. When the tide drops, spits of river bed are exposed and the sea birds, waders and egrets come in to rest bathe and feed upon what might have been exposed or left by the fleeing tide. I had the best amount of birds to watch and had to buy new binoculars as I had left mine at home ! My greatest joy was to hear and then see Curlew, that I had recently read, have been placed on the 'RED LIST', it is tragic that we continue to lose species. I find Appledore the most soporific place and the people so friendly. A first morning trip to the newsagents, tucked away in a back street, and I am greeted by a lovely lady who recognises me, and we start were we left off, Mrs A had her hip done, working news about the shipyard ( famous and from the 1800's. has announced it will close, due to lack of orders. A severe blow ) yes, the winter was ok, have you come down for the Literary Festival, Mrs B's shop is closing and there is still a queue up the street when the Fish and Chip shop is open. Bidefords is very close with a branch of the excellent Morrisons and Barnstable is 15 to 20 mins away. All in all, one of those holiday stays when you do not want to come home and the thoughts of could I make the move will rove around in your head whilst you stay. And finally, I was to be seen lying on the pavement in front of Estate Agents window, sobbing, having just seen the prices and the properties available ! I must add my thanks to the owners for such a lovely welcome hamper and a delicious bottle of wine. I toasted them with my thanks and good health.
