South House is a simply stunning, pet friendly retreat for six, tucked away in the pretty village of Terrington within the beautiful Howardian Hills National Landscape (AONB). Stylish, spacious and wonderfully positioned for exploring North Yorkshire, it combines contemporary comforts with countryside charm.
At the heart of the house is a spacious open plan living area, flooded with natural light from two sets of bifold doors opening onto the garden. The modern kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with electric appliances including a dishwasher, double oven, microwave and air fryer, while a breakfast bar provides the perfect spot for morning coffee. Gather around the designer dining table for leisurely meals before sinking into the deep filled sofas beside the log burning stove and Smart TV. Underfloor heating throughout adds an extra touch of comfort.
The ground floor also offers a double bedroom with garden views, shower room and practical utility/boot room with washing machine. Upstairs are a further double bedroom, twin bedroom and house shower room. Outside, the split level cottage style garden has seating on the level immediately outside the house, with five steps leading to a raised seating area and small lawn. There is off street parking for three cars, a chargeable EV charger and wheelchair access via the garden.
Step outside and you are immediately immersed in village life. Just across the road is Terrington Village Store and Café, perfect for picking up holiday essentials or enjoying something delicious from the café; the cakes alone are well worth a visit.
Beyond the village, the Howardian Hills provide a glorious backdrop for days spent outdoors. This designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is characterised by rolling countryside, woodland, historic estates and peaceful villages, with miles of walking and cycling routes waiting to be discovered. Pack your walking boots, bring your bicycles and don’t forget the binoculars; the surrounding countryside is wonderful for spotting wildlife. There is also a choice of golf courses close by.
The magnificent Castle Howard is only a short drive away. One of Yorkshire’s most iconic stately homes, it offers beautiful gardens and parkland alongside an impressive year round programme of events. Its spectacular Christmas celebrations and popular outdoor concerts are particular highlights.
For a complete change of pace, spend a day in historic York. Wander through the medieval Shambles, marvel at York Minster, discover Viking history at JORVIK or enjoy a relaxing river cruise. York Racecourse provides exciting days out, while concerts and events in the Museum Gardens add to the City’s packed cultural calendar. Excellent independent shops, restaurants, cafés and bars make York equally tempting for shopping and dining.
There’s plenty more within easy reach. Visit the market towns of Malton and Pickering, home to the much loved North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Venture further into the spectacular North York Moors National Park for dramatic landscapes, walking trails and characterful villages. When only the seaside will do, Scarborough and Filey are both under an hour away, offering sandy beaches, traditional attractions and refreshing coastal walks.
Whether your plans involve country walks, historic houses, city sightseeing, coast or countryside, South House provides a fantastic luxury base for six from which to experience this beautiful corner of North Yorkshire.
