Nestled between Swaledale and Weardale Romaldkirk lies in Teesdale which is a peaceful haven of tranquillity nature and ever changing landscapes. Perfect for walkers The Dovecote is right at the heart of many established public footpaths and walkways. Ideal for walkers of all abilities there is some stunning scenery and leisurely strolls along the side of the river to more taxing trails along the rugged fells. The Teesway footpath is easily accessible and takes guests through to the village of Cotherstone and beyond or maybe head towards Mickleton and then even further afield towards Middleton-in-Teesdale. Other walks lead towards the reservoirs of Grassholme or across towards Hury. In the heart of Romaldkirk is an award-winning pub and restaurant so why not enjoy a lovely meal on the walk back towards the property. A little further afield guests will be able to leave their car behind at the Bowlees Visitor Centre and then walk along to two of the most incredible waterfalls in the area Low Force and High Force. This is also an ideal spot for guests who are wanting a more peaceful holiday with the chance to visit and explore some of the local historic attractions and National Trust properties there are many to visit in the area. Egglestone Hall and Gardens is just 2 miles away Bowes Museum is 6 miles and definitely an attraction worth a visit Raby Castle with it’s famous deer that graze in the grounds is 12 miles. Barnard Castle 6 miles is a historic market town that offers a quaint high street that is bustling with antiques shops restaurants bistros and cafes. 30 miles away guests will be able to take a day trip to the city of Durham where there are boutiques shops restaurants bistros and also a theatre and leisure centre. Take a day trip to the beautiful scenery of the Lake District which is a mere 45-mile drive away. Shop 4½ miles pub and restaurant ½ mile." https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/898/840/898801.jpg 30765

    A real romantic getaway location

The Dovecote is a lovely cottage, well renovated, clean and cosy. A welcome hamper was provided which was a lovely touch and it’s in a very scenic location. The nearest supermarket isn’t too far away (Morrisons in Barnard Castle) and we were able to get everything we needed for a comfortable stay and enjoyable weekend.

An exceptional place to stay! The Dovecote has been done out to such a high standard - it was simply beautiful. Every detail has been thought about and you want for nothing. The owners were on hand and incredibly helpful and the welcome hamper was a amazing and very tasty! My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights there and wish it could have been longer. The area is beautiful with lots to go and explore and there are some lovely local pubs! But The Dovecote is also perfect if you want to get away from everything and have a romantic meal at home. Couldn't recommend this place more highly!

The Dovecote was just perfect for us, a quiet location with plenty of walks locally. It had everything we needed for a peaceful break. The owner Helen was very helpful, and the welcome pack much appreciated.

Would highly recommend- the owners have thought of everything! A fantastic pub just down the road too

Beautiful dovecote which had been tastefully converted to a 1 bed self catering holiday home. everything you could need for a short stay (no dishwasher)

Lovely Cottage extremely well equipped, more like a hotel ! Very good welcome box & fresh flowers on the Table . Fabulous shower room ! One Negative is the lack of outside Drying the Washing or a washer dryer. The only thing that’s stops it being a 10 is the Bathroom being down stairs . Particularly for us in the Older generation ,as some of us have to get up in the night !! Very quite & private location, we think it would be lovely sitting outside When it’s hot. The most excellent food in the Village Pub , but again for us Oldies the 10 minute Walk was too steep so we drove , but well worth it . Helen the Owner was very helpful.

Stayed in many cottages log cabins and can honestly say this was the nicest one. If you want a romantic weekend away look no further. We will certainly be back again.
