This is a wonderful find if you are looking for a unique retreat in stunning countryside. We visited for a subdued getaway to celebrate my in-laws 40th anniversary in lockdown. The owner is friendly, approachable and very amenable. The building has been converted and decorated with real attention to detail and to a very high standard. The beds are to die for and I’ve never seen more effective blackout blinds. Even our 6 month old daughter slept like a log! It really is a dream property!

The Old Church is a very comfortable and well-equipped holiday home in a lovely countryside location. The exterior retains the look of the 19th century church, whilst the interior has been thoughtfully converted to provide spacious accommodation for four people. The property was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the owners made it clear that they were happy to help with any questions or issues we might have.

The Old Church is wonderful, so welcoming and relaxing with everything you need, the area is fantastic with so much to see and do. Certainly the best holiday home I have stayed in and will return.

Exceptionally well presented property. Quirky yet fully equipped and decorated to a high standard. Full of information and advice for location/activities. Local walks from doorstep. Can’t praise the place enough

The old church is an amazing place to stay, so comfortable and very welcoming. The host Jayne is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The welcome tray was just amazing and a little treat to arrive to.

Best cottage we've stayed in..super comfy and cosy in every way.. the owner really ensures your stay is luxurious..

We had a fantastic short break at the Old Cottage and Jayne was an excellent host. The cottage itself is lovely, well set-up and very roomy - we went as a couple but it would be very comfortable with a larger group staying. We will be back!

Without doubt the most homely holiday home we have ever stayed in ,we both admitted that it was as near to perfect as possible,we wanted for nothing ,everything was thought of and I would recommend the old church to anyone who loves peace, quiet in fantastic surroundings.

We had an excellent holiday at the old Church. The cottage was clean and comfortable, with every detail thought of. The welcome pack was amazing, and it was certainly one of the best accommodations we’ve stayed in. Our daughters loved the daily cow parade!! Five stars all the way!!

    out of 10

In over 40 years of renting holiday cottages, the Old Church rates among the best. The building itself has been sensitively restored to give it a new lease of life and the attention to detail makes this a special place to stay. Its location is ideal for exploring the countryside and visiting a number of historic buildings easily. Whilst it did not adversely affect our stay, it's worth noting that the road on which it is situated is something of a "rat run" for traffic in the morning and evening.

Nothing was stinted. Quality throughout from the welcome tray to the fixtures and fittings. Road outside is busier than expected for a rural property but this did not impact upon our holiday. It is the best holiday accommodation we have ever had. Spotlessly clean and warm as toast.

The Old Church is a beautiful haven of stylish comfort in which the owner has lovingly thought of everything to create the best possible holiday retreat. Truly on a par with a 4 star hotel. Ideally situated for some lovely walks to take in the natural wonder of the Dales and close to numerous places of interest. Relaxed chats to friendly locals added to the charm of the place. Can't wait to return!!

Super holiday cottage. Nowhere is perfect, but this cottage gets remarkably close. Owners are most welcoming and helpful.

A very enjoyable week. One of the very best cottages we have had from English Country Cottages.

    out of 10

The Old Church is the best cottage we have stayed in. It is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with a calm and peaceful atmosphere. It was comfortable with all the equipment we needed. We enjoyed visits to Bakewell famous for its Bakewell puddings; Haddon Hall, a house from the middle ages and Sudbury, a National Trust property with a Museum of Childhood which brought back many memories. The surrounding scenery is amazing with lovely old cottages and the dales.
