It has beautiful architectural features coupled with a spacious and classy interior, and the finish throughout is truly exceptional. The Old Church is situated in the heart of this pretty little hamlet on the outskirts of the village of Ashover, a previous winner of ‘Village of the Year’. It is just 6 miles from the very popular tourist town of Matlock and is perfectly placed for discovering everything the Peak District has to offer. The property has been renovated to a very high standard throughout; great efforts have been made to preserve and accentuate its original features such as the glorious arched windows, exposed stonework and the ornate cast-iron radiators, as well as to ensure that contemporary comforts of the highest standard are also included. The traditional oak kitchen has a coffee machine and breakfast bar area, often bathed in sunlight giving it a light and airy feel, stepping down through French doors into the exquisite dining room area. The large dining table, arched window, cosy window seats and oak flooring give the property a luxurious and welcoming feel, with views out into the countryside and into the village. The beautiful oak flooring extends through the reading nook in the entrance hall through into the living room, with its tasteful decoration and wood burner - perfect for evenings in. The sumptuous bedrooms upstairs have a fresh and relaxing feel, both with Smart TV’s and high quality en-suite bathrooms with luxury showers and underfloor heating. The indulgent downstairs bathroom boasts a striking freestanding bath and mood lighting, plus underfloor heating. There is parking for two to three vehicles and a delightful garden and seating area at the rear of the property overlooking the rolling countryside with views of Bolsover castle.Alton is a peaceful rural hamlet, just a mile from Ashover, which itself has a selection of inns and village shops. There are several farm shops and eateries within 1-3 miles, and fishing ponds, a golf course and a riding school are all within 5 minutes’ drive. Chatsworth House is just a 15-minute trip, as are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, and the nearest town of Matlock is full of attractions and amenities: there is a beautiful park, the attractions of Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham (a hilltop park), as well as a popular golf course and antique shops. Bakewell, with its bustling farmers market, boutique shops and riverside activity, is just 20 minutes away, and is a perfect gateway to both the Dark Peak and White Peak areas that this stunning region is known for. If staying closer to home is more your intention, the property offers a selection of walks from the door, linking in to the huge network of footpaths around the Ashover Parish and beyond. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous crooked spire, is just 6 miles away, and has many cycle paths along its canal, as well as plenty of rainy day activities. Slightly further afield you can find English Heritage’s Bolsover Castle which is full of intrigue and proud history, and which boasts a calendar brimming with events. Alternatively, you can try your hand at a variety of water sports at Carsington Reservoir. The Old Church offers everything you could need to enjoy the beautiful Peak District, and a very warm welcome awaits you at this idyllic retreat. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

First class cottage with an exceptional host
Will definitely return
It is a lovely cottage. Very well equipped, spacious and comfy. Would definitely would recommend it. The area is lovely with good local pubs. A place to relax and unwind.
A beautiful cottage with a home from home feel. Beds extremely comfortable and fully equipped kitchen. Fabulous walks right from the doorstep in stunning countryside. The only downside is the noise from the road if you sleep with the windows open and you’re a light sleeper. We were also a bit unsure as to the extent of the garden as the steps appeared to lead to the neighbouring garden?? Please note you have to drive to the nearest shop/pub/restaurant. All in all a gorgeous property and the owners can’t do enough for you. A lovely welcome basket with a personal note and late checkout 😊

Very nice cottage, hope to return.
Very comfortable cottage well positioned for Peak District. Really enjoyed as stay, would return.
I've stayed in many holiday cottages over the last few decades but this one ranks among my favorites. It was charming and full of character not to mention spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable, there were two en-suites, and four big screen TV's. The kitchen was well equipped and it had a washer/dryer which was a blessing. But by far our favorite bit was the small patio in front where we sat in the evenings with a drink in hand watching the cows come home. We hope to return!
Amazing cottage which was exactly as the photos.
Great place to stay.
Easy to find and to get to other places.
Have been back and will stay again.
Fabulous Cottage we are a family two adults and three children aged 9, 4 & 18 months. Beautiful inside, very clean, spacious, Smart TV's in four rooms, underfloor heating, log fire, beautiful well thoughtout welcome pack we even had chocolates on the pillows for the children and I almost cried when I saw the packet of white chocolate buttons for my 18 month old in her cot, now thats going the extra mile. Fantastic owners very friendly and on the ball with help when needed. The only thing missing was an Hot Tub but the fabulous bath makes up for that. 10/10 we will definately return. So much to see in the area you won't be disapointed.
We had a fantastic few days in The Old Church. We were welcomed with a tray of lovely items and a note from the owner Jayne with her number on should we need her for anything which we thought was a nice touch. We had no use for it though as everything was perfect. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, especially the beds. Would love to come back and stay again!
excellent property that is great if you want to get away from it all.
very high standard of accommodation and decoration. Lovely owner who was very helpful, highly recommended.
Perfect holiday home with wonderful specification. Loved it
Lovely cottage. Everything was perfect for our break in Derbyshire. Would certainly return again.
Amazing luxury holiday cottage, lovely welcome from hosts with a hand written note and welcome tray of treats. Perfect in every way - can't wait to return!

A few improvements are needed at the Old Church. A new front door is necessary as the current door is warped and will not close well! Radiator in the en-suite in front bedroom needs relocating or removing as in a dangerous place for standing at the washbasin. The cottage was nice and warm for which we are grateful and the welcome pack appreciated after our travels.
