The cottage retains many original features including the beams and hay basket in the stable now a modern fully fitted kitchen. York offers a range of activities including the historic minster the Jorvik Viking Centre City Walls and National Railway Museum. Easy access to the main road network means that the North Yorks Moors are a short drive whilst the coast especially Scarborough and Whitby is well worth a visit. The Yorkshire Wolds offer pretty villages with good pubs serving food and the Dales have unrivalled scenery.     there seems to be very little interest or care about the staying guests here. the cooker and oven were faulty. bought things with us to roast ended up having to freeze food and buy takeaways, and the previous tenants rubbish was left for us to deal with. window by front door would not lock. tv was a nightmare to operate properly. shower temperature dangerously temperamental. I could go on. all these problems have been highlighted on previous reviews but it seems the owners don't really care. taking the money with very little if any maintenance. definitely wont go back there again.

    We knew the location of the property was the area we wanted but.... as we walked into the kitchen the smell of cooked lamb was in the air. I used the oven on the first night to heat a prepared meal and the smell of cooked lamb increased. I found a pan in the oven that had obviously been used to cook the item but with no attempt to clean. As the property was only used for sleeping the kitchen doors were kept closed to prevent the smell permiating the entire property. We found no toilet paper, the toilet seat broken and the shower a health and safety issue. The hot water, without warning, became either cold or scalding hot in use. We showered elsewhere after the first occasion. This is the first property we have used, and have used many over the decades, with no welcome, not even a prepared tea tray. So much for the Yorkshire friendliness and warm welcome, or even a Yorkshire teabag. On booking I was informed that the heating was included in the rental cost but inside the door was a fuel usage display. I am unsure what that was all about. A few miles out of York , through our own misunderstandings it was realised that we had left food in the fridge. Please I hope someone enjoys.

    The double bed was so soft it was uncomfortable to share. The double quilt was filled with feathers that had clumped into solid lumps. The shower temperature could not be controlled and was dangerous. The TV instructions were not helpful. The property itself is beautiful and the renovation is of high standard (we stayed here when it was first done) but it has not been properly maintained over the last few years. It does not meet the high standards required for a 5 star rating.

    This is a beautiful, expensively converted coach house with a lovely courtyard to sit out in and only 20 minutes on foot from central York. However the excellent property is spoilt by lack of maintenance. We arrived in the dark on a cold November evening to find the heating had not been switched on and it was freezing cold as had not been occupied for some time. It took four hours before we could take our coats off. Of the 9 spotlights (the only lighting) in the kitchen 7 were broken so it was extremely dark in there and several other bulbs were missing – from the sitting room and upstairs. The place had nor been properly cleaned so that the fridge was dirty and had leftover items from some time ago left there. The television did not work despite our following the instructions closely. The well-fitted bathroom had a problem shower which veered from extreme boiling hot to freezing cold without touching the controls- highly dangerous. As the boiler needed re-pressurising there was obviously a fault but an electric shower which runs separately from the mains would be recommended. All these faults spoiled our short holiday as we were cold (initially) so why couldn’t the owner who lives across the courtyard have come in to turn on the heating a few hours before we were expected? The failure to replace bulbs and check the TV as well as the dirty parts of the house presumably lies with the cleaners. If the owner is unwilling or unable to pop across to see to these matters then someone has to be employed to do so. It is such a pity as a 5 star property is falling well bellow standard. I see I am not the first to make some of these comments so why is nothing done? I should love to stay here again but only if it is properly maintained.

    We had a great holiday, although the weather wasn't at it's best. The house was very comfortable to stay in at the rainy times. Only down sides . Several lights in the lounge and kitchen were not working and the shower didn't get warm, hot would have been nice. Both of these issues have been raised in the visitors book, but sadly no action has been taken. Could have been 10 scores with a little effort.

    Second stay here, lovely place to stay, plenty of parking space and a nice area for sitting out. Well equipped, clean and tidy. One thing which became a little annoying was the difficulty in unlocking the main door, there could possibly have been a knack to doing it easier but unfortunately never mastered it if there was.
