Lovely location, surroundings excellent. Lovely host greeted us with biscuits, eggs and wine. Unable to pass a valid comment re. local amenities because of Covid restrictions, many amenities and attractions were closed which is understandable, however, there are excellent walks around which we really enjoyed and got loads of exercise to the point of tiredness! A very comfortable cottage, lovely beds and linens, equally lovely sofas and ample seating, however given its rural location it could have been enhanced with Netflix or similar. Am of the opinion that given the price there should have been an electric point in at least one bathroom for razor and toothbrush. The shower in the main bathroom drips when another tap in the cottage is used, this is annoying in the middle of the night, also all the doors bind on the floors and the internal step to the door is a trip hazard, we both tripped, so placed a wicker chair on the step to remind us. The dishwasher and units were a little worn and there was a huge draught blowing through the long church style doors in the lounge area. With regard to cleanliness and given the Covid situation it should have had a deep clean, it hadn't, there was dust on windowsills and cobwebs, the freezer needed defrosting, dirt on the sill of the dishwasher. The soft furnishings and books etc. re Covid should have been removed, however, owners were only informed of our re-booking two days in advance of our arrival, so they simply would not have had enough time for all this. The Company hadn't let them know by the time we rang them to let the owners know of our arrival time. We did have a lovely time it was so quiet and loved the donkeys the change of being in a different 4 walls at the time of Covid was a real tonic. We would recommend that the owners stay in the cottage for a week themselves, it's only when you sit on the toilet that you see the dust, it's only when you use the shower that you can criticise it. Hope our criticism is viewed as constructive. We have stayed in a lot of cottages and this is top of our list and we would love to return.

Lovely unique property in a beautiful, peaceful location. Second visit. I would recommend this property. Close to Corbridge and Hexham in gorgeous Northumberland.

Our second stay. This is a special place, very comfortable, in a secluded location but close to amenities.

4th visit to this beautiful little castle. So peaceful in beautiful rural location. Friendly non intrusive owners. Only 15 minute walk into Newton where Duke of Wellington offers warm welcome.

The cottage is lovely. Made to feel very welcome. Loved the donkeys.

The rating would have been higher still had we not been asked to remove the sheets, etc. I was very happy to do that, but in doing so discovered the soiled mattress cover and other stained bedding. Apart from that it is a terrific cottage!

A charming property providing a perfect setting for a restorative break.

Overall v good. Only minor gripes were: 1. Entrance to grass track leading up to Water Castle was unnecessarily narrow. 2. Hot and cold water systems a bit unusual. Took time to build up pressure, then came on in pressure wave. Quite hard to regulate. 3. No 2-pin electric points in bathroom for shave or electric toothbrush charging. 4. Some tea bags and a pint of milk on arrival would have been nice. That said, the bread and eggs were most welcome
