The farmstead itself has a wealth of history the farmhouse and surrounding courtyard buildings dating back to the 15th Century and the farm having a mention in the doomsday book. The cottages are set on Joe and Janes family farm where sheep and cattle are looked after balancing farming practices and wildlife conservation. There is an abundance of wildlife with a farm trail and excellent walking routes from the cottage doors. Cruck cottage is unique in the fact that it sits alone with no neighbours than the other cottages namely Swallows Return, Tom Boys Cottage and Wolfscote Cottage are in their own courtyard with private patio areas. Hartington is twelve miles from Bakewell which has an ancient past; being mentioned in the Doomsday Book and probably also occupied by the Romans. This beautiful, small market town is situated on the River Wye and has many pleasant walks from the bridge to the town centre where there are many shops, pubs and restaurants and one of the oldest markets in the area,
dating back to 1300. The renowned Bakewell Show takes place on the first Wednesday and Thursday of August, attracting both the farming community and visitors from all over the region
and beyond.
