    > "Ideal base for a family holiday...set between the Cheviots and the sea"

Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

Guests may relax in the indoor swimming pool and sauna or work out in the gym, built close to the cottages. Shop/24-hr garage 1 mile.

Fordson (MHH), Ferguson (MHI), The Granary Cottage (MKO), Waren View (MKP) and The Mill House (MLX) can be booked together to accommodate up to 30 guests.

Well equipped, very comfortable. Loved swimming pool and tennis court. Only let down by dirty floor on arrival and strong dog smell on sofas and cleaning equipment full of dog hair and smell.

A well equipped cottage based at an excellent location for exploring the Northumberland coastline and surrounding area. Whilst only 50yards from the A1, it was exceedingly quiet, with places to pop out for walks with the dog, as well as easy access to local beaches and towns. The swimming pool was rarely used by others, meaning it felt like a private pool and the tennis court was well kept. As we were staying a fortnight the cleaners popped in offering to change bedding and towels after the first week which was a nice touch. The kitchen was well equipped, meaning it was easy to cook for five people should you wish too, but also pubs and takeaways in nearby towns if you don't. There's lots to do for kids on the area on wet days, as well as the stunning beaches when the sun shines. We took our dog and found everywhere very welcoming, inc. pubs, cafes and many of the local tourist attractions. Couple of downsides to the accomodation; firstly it wasn't as large as the photos made it appear. The kitchen and sitting room are in one area, with a step between the two, which was disappointing. The gym is tiny, poorly lit/ventilated and equipment is old / damaged, so don't go if it's the gym you want to use. Finally it would be a squash if your planning to put a cot in the single room, you'd have to move furniture round it you actually want to step into the room! FIA y it was only when we arrived we were told we could t leave the dog alone in the accomodation and that he couldn't go upstairs, which isn't a problem, but a Stargate was have been a useful addition as with it all being new to the dog, he wanted to follow us upstairs everyone we went. However the call from the owner the day before was a lovely touch and the onsite caretaker was friendly. Overall a lovely, well located cottage, in a great location, though slightly overpriced for the size of it.

The pool and gym are excellent. The issue with this one is the location. Warenford lies on a small loop road directly off the A1. You can hear the traffic when outside and, because there are no shops or other amenities, you have to drive literally every time you want to do anything. There is a pub but the food is expensive and not to everyone's taste. There's nowhere to walk unless you fancy a path lying 10m from the A1. The complex also had a wasps nest with the entrance in a door frame near the pool. We couldn't sit out for the wasps on a bush in our garden area. I reported this to the complex owner and he literally said "Well we get a lot of wasps round here". He didn't treat them while we were there, and I don't think he intended to. This was not the fault of the lady who rented the house who was lovely.

The family and Ellie (the dog) enjoyed our first cottage holiday. It was perfect, being in an excellent location for short journeys to local beaches, castles and places of interest. The swimming pool, gym and tennis court kept our granddaughter busy and the White Swan restaurant was 5 star. If we could have changed anything it would have been the weather, however it certainly did not spoil our holiday. We will return and would certainly recommend the cottage.

We had a lovely time at the Granary Cottage. The location was perfect for us to explore the region - beaches and places to eat, including the White Swan across the road. The overall rating is a little lower than it would be as we had big problems with the electrics - the sockets switched off many, many times including watching tv, during the night so phones did not charge, fridge switched off, kettle etc. This also happened during the day whilst we were out. We stayed only three nights so endured it and understood that it could not be put right immediately or over the weekend. I’m sure it will be sorted before the cottage is rented again. We would love to return again and be able to fully appreciate it as it was otherwise great. We enjoyed the pool and sauna :-)
