Waterfall Cottage is a renovated barn conversion just a stone’s throw from the stunning Lumsdale Waterfall in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with historic mill ruins and ponds dating back to the Industrial Age. Situated within the owner’s extensive 16-acre grounds looking out on to open fields, this charming cottage offers light and airy accommodation all on one level. This stunning property has an open plan layout with the living room having oak beams and a wood burner. The large patio doors open out on to a secluded patio with garden furniture and a BBQ. Stone steps lead from the patio to a private grass area for further relaxation. There are two bedrooms: one with a kingsize bed, and the other with twin beds. The shower room has a large walk-in shower.
Outside, visitors can also enjoy a spacious open area with garden ponds and a stream. These grounds, which are shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage, are very large and provide the ideal place where you can fly kites, play ball games or just to relax on a quiet evening watching the sun set whilst enjoying a spot of alfresco dining.
Here at Waterfall Cottage you have the best of both worlds: wonderful walks in the surrounding open Derbyshire countryside, and for days out, you are within close proximity to all the major tourist attractions the Derbyshire Dales have to offer. Certainly an idyllic rural retreat, yet the historic spa town of Matlock is only a mile away with its award-winning park where band concerts can be enjoyed on a Sunday summer afternoon, and where an annual Christmas Victorian Market is held in December. Matlock Bath, named the little Switzerland of England, is just a couple of miles away and the famous illuminations are held here each year in September. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Waterfall Cottage can be booked together with Water Bailiffs Lodge (CC418024) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

Lovely cottage in a very quiet and secluded location. Wendy was a lovely host (we didn't meet Nigel as he was away) & the cottage had everything we needed & the shower is truly excellent! Superb pub in the next village (10 minute walking distance across the fields) & had a lovely Sunday roast there. A little micro-brewery just on the lane on the approach to the cottage was a great bonus too. Lumsdale falls just a short walk away are a must. Although we visited in August we had a couple of slightly chilly evenings & lit the wood burner just to take the chill off & it made the cottage lovely & cosy. We had a lovely, relaxing week at Waterfall Cottage - the only (very slight) issue is that if 4 adults are staying then room on the sofas may be a little tight (we like to sprawl a bit) but other than that - perfect.

Unique location about 1 mile from Matlock main town with all the facilities you may need. Ideal for visiting Chatsworth House. House all on one level so ideal for the less mobile. Very quiet, fox and badger passed by lounge doors at dusk.

Excellent week! Nothing 'not to like'!! The absolute ONLY thing we couldn't find was some washing powder/tablets. So we didn't do any!!! Oh, and 40 yards of [tough] gravel track before getting onto main driveway - but that did not deter from the lovely cottage and the warm welcome we received.

My husband and I with our two children (2 and 7 years) had a wonderful stay at Waterfall Cottage for a week. Perfectly placed for a short walk to a great pub in one direction and to the beautiful Lumsdale Waterfalls in the other. Matlock is a short drive away with a fantastic splash park. And close to other sights like The Heights if Abraham and Gullivers Kingdom. Not to mention the beautiful walks. The cottage is warm and cosy. Well equipped with everything we needed. And a beautiful garden to sit and relax in with views down the valley. The hosts are kind and took care of everything we needed. We’d definitely visit again!

A beautiful heritage industrial valley with ponds, dams and a waterfall. Recommend Thomas Petit glass works just below cottage. Cottage very well-equiped and thoughtfully stocked and maintained by Wendy Else; ask to see Nigel's project! Gentle 10 minutes walk across fields from back of cottage to The Gate in Tansley, excellent meals and beers. Only 5 minutes drive to centre of Matlock. Cottage probably more suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids rather than 4 adults; ideal for a couple.

A very cosy cottage. We enjoyed an excellent few days there. The welcome hamper was much appreciated as was the evident attention which Wendy gave us - she was most cheerful and friendly. The cottage is extremely well located for walks around Matlock (indeed from the front door) and the surrounding smaller villages. A good pub is also within easy walking distance - even in the dark ! A very quiet and peaceful location and very comfortable beds ensure that sleep too is undisturbed.
