A bit of the good the bad and the ugly: the Good - Excellent location The bad - Electric heating, not that effective on a cold day and very steep stairs The ugly - Bathroom could do with freshening up with a lick of paint Overall not a bad cottage in an excellent location just needs a little TLC in my opinion

This cottage is just lovely and perfect holiday accomodation, well equipped, warm and cosy. Just a couple of thoughts- an airer to dry clothes on would be useful rather than having to drape things over the radiators (if there was one I couldn't find it!) and a small stock of salt, pepper and herbs would be very useful! This was my second stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Poor heating. Heaters were turned off and require overnight to charge so freezing first night. The stairs are really dangerous and the microwave didn't work properly. Wont stay there again but was a nice cottage. No parking at the cottage doesn't help.

Nearly full marks to this lovely cottage which has been restored by the owners and is beautifully decorated. Only a few points: the cottage was quite cold downstairs when we arrived. The listing has said that there would be enough wood left for the log burner for one evening. There was nothing and one of the night storage heaters had not been switched on the previous evening and was cold. Microwave not no working and reported to agency. Otherwise, everything was good with the cottage. Once the heater had chanceto warm up and we bought some wood it was much warmer. Cottage is easy to find and the location is ideal for lovely walks around Derwentwater and short cut into Keswick. The launch on the lake goes all round and there is a stop 10 minutes walk from the cottage. Marina and activities nearby too. Only gave a 9 for local amenities as there isn't a general store in the village but an excellent pub and a cafe. Gave a 9 for cleanliness as our first job before we could eat was to clean the oven and the racks! We contacted Cumbrian cottages to say that we though we had left binoculars behind, but one week later, they have not yet come back.

Cottage was very small, and didn't like the fact that bathroom was downstairs. Lovely café in the village, and pub was also very friendly

Tower Cottage is a cosy property for 2 people, we were happy to be in quiet Portinscale, but within a short walk to Keswick town. The cottage had everything we needed, but might have been a little bit of a squeeze for 3?

Very comfortable and peaceful stay. The cottage had all the amenities we needed and is in an excellent location. Maybe broadband would have been a benefit - although, in the event, we quite enjoyed being ‘off grid’ for a week. Good pub food locally and the walks into Keswick did us good. This was our second stay here and we are likely to be back.
