This Victorian terraced town house was built when Whitby became a highly fashionable spa resort. Abbeydale Town House, has been renovated to a very good standard retaining many of its original features. Whitby is known for its quirkiness and its many little alleyways and ginnels that take you down to the seafront. A busy working harbour awaits with a small vibrant fishing fleet that bring in their catch on a daily basis. Just around the corner from the harbour there’s a large sandy beach, great for all ages with donkey rides, sandcastles and rock pools. Perched on the hilltop is Whitby Abbey, famous for many reasons but one is the fact that it has 199 steps from the old town to the abbey. The Cleveland Way passes through Whitby as it follows the coastline down to Filey. It’s a stunning walk along the rugged clifftops and down into the small coves. For those who like a more leisurely stroll there’s the Cinder Path which is the old railway that goes from Whitby to Scarborough, over 20 miles of flat walking. The resorts of Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend, Staithes and Scarborough are all a short drive away. Abbeydale is a great base to visit the east coast, the North York Moors and the Wolds. Beach 500 yards. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

Excellent location. You need to know that the top floor bedroom is up 59 stairs from the ground floor kitchen, no use for the elderly or disabled. No outside space at all. House clean, kitchen well equipped, nicely decorated. Single glazing in bedrooms, very noisy gulls, you also hear lots of people going up and down the street. Overall nice property but I wouldn’t rebook.

A great holiday and a lovely home from home feel to the house. Would definitely recommend this property to family and friends :-)

Parking, although permits provided, was impossible over the weekend, slightly better in the week but still fairly difficult. The details said there was a welcome pack but there was 2 pints of long life milk only ? There is clearly an issue with drain smell at the property but none of the toilets or sinks were bleached. I feel that the amount of stairs should be emphasised more on the detail as it was quite a shock to find over 65 steps to get a cuppa from my bed!

Lovely house in a good location. Well equipped and very clean. But may be difficult if mobility issues - 59 stairs from basement kitchen to too floor bedroom. It kept us fit! Would recommend.

A lovely house in walking distance to the shops, harbour, park, museum and beach and train station. Only downside really was the parking which was almost impossible as we unknowingly chose the Goth weekend. Things got slightly better after Monday for parking. Would recommend that they get a dishwasher and move the fridge freezer into the kitchen where there is plenty of room for both.

A lovely place to stay to see Whitby, beach, town or sights; easy to walk to all these places. Particularly liked the decor and size of rooms, and separate bathrooms for each bedroom a bonus. Would stay again .

This was the second stay here as we fell in love with the house last year. Unfortunately it's fully booked for our dates next year.... We are gutted ?

We had to leave after one night as my mum was critical and actually died a few days later. We hadn't realised how big the house was but the biggest problem was the bedding it smelt and theres no way that was fresh bedding. This was the case in all three rooms. No wardrobes in any room just a few hooks. The house is rented for a week and just not enough storage. Felt very disappointed and don't think we would have stayed even if we didn't have bad news.
