Anvil Cottage is a delightful, traditional cottage positioned in an ideal location in the quiet village of Hawsker, just a few miles outside of the hustle and bustle of Whitby but close enough to enjoy a leisurely walk, cycle or a 5 minute drive. Hawsker has a great family run pub that serves excellent home cooked meals and is only 50 yards from the cottage. The cottage was built in the 17th century and was part of the original blacksmith’s workshop that has been converted to a good standard of accommodation for couples and small families, looking to explore this beautiful coastline. A sofa bed in the lounge provides additional room for two extra guests.
For those wishing to take a break from driving, a frequent bus service runs to Whitby, Middleborough, Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough. The North York Moors National Park offers something for everyone with varied landscape such as heather clad moorland, sweeping dales and quaint villages, not to mention the beautiful heritage coastline just waiting to be discovered. The area is also ideal for walkers and cyclists with numerous walks and cycle tracks right on your doorstep including a disused railway line only 200 yards from the cottage that runs from Whitby to Scarborough ideal for cyclists of all ages and abilities and there is a cycle hire centre at the edge of the village.

A very nice cottage with all amenities. Very comfortable. Very good for walking along the Cleveland Way (cliffs) and the Cinder Track (old railway line) Both go to Whitby one way and Robinhood's Bay the other Bed and sofa excellent very comfy Pub within 50 yards and food and beer good will sleep 4 using put u up in living room Plenty of sanitary fittings ( 2 loos etc) Wifi not available and mobile signal weak but no problem for us Parking on site requires a little 3 point turn to go out and exit is vision restricted. Buses pass the door every 30 minutes Overall excellent Landlady very helpful

Unfortunately Anvil Cottage did not live up to expectations. The "leather"sofa needs replacing, it was torn on one of the arms and it was uncomfortable to sit on as the cushions were badly sunken in. The two armchairs are tiny. The beds were really uncomfortable, you could feel the mattress springs all night long. The bedding smelt really musty, as though it had been stored in the damp. The shower had lots of mould in the corners. The garden photographs are really misleading, and this tiny area is to be shared with several other cottages. We left a day early.
