Nestled in an idyllic private woodland setting, Auchenhill Lodge offers a lovely relaxing retreat close to Kippford, often described as Scotland’s ’Riviera’. Locals refer to this area as ’The Golden Triangle’ - Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford - and frequent visitors understand why. The climate is temperate as Galloway is touched by the Gulf Stream with many golden, sandy, and often empty beaches to explore. For excellent views of the Rough Firth estuary, the Jubilee Path is highly recommended. This was named to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and is the main path between Kippford and the equally charming village of Rockcliffe. There are wonderful views out to sea, and the path passes Mark of Mote, 1 100-foot high granite outcrop, with a Dark Age settlement on top. Rockcliffe and Sandyhills (with a beautiful sandy beach as its name implies!) are small Victorian bathing resorts close by. Kippford was once a smuggler’s haunt with a wealth of stories and legends to discover and is now a pretty sailing resort with quaint fisherman’s cottages. There is a low tide walk from the beach to Rough Island. Scotland’s only round tower house, Orchardton Tower, is a must to visit with its spiral staircase hidden within double walls leading to a parapet.
Please note: auchenhill Lodge is also available to let with the adjoining property Forest Lodge, for a combined family holiday.

Initially the property looked clean. After spotting a mouse running across the floor and finding mouse droppings I was very disappointed. I checked under the twin beds and found bits of food and more droppings. Also dropping in the main bedroom. I tried to vac the food up to find the vacuum didn't work. After cleaning the vacuum I cleaned up the food and droppings. Very disappointed to pay so much money. Won't be booking again

Very peaceful. A downside was that although bedding was provided we didn't realise that towels weren't included. The landlord did leave 2 after we mentioned it but we ended up going buying some - 2 towels for over 10 nights is really not enough. Could also have had extra sheets so that we coukd change the bedding. On the plus side the 2 lambs that came calling on a daily basis were quite cute

Really enjoyed our break with our two dogs . The lodge is in a very quiet location and had everything that we needed for our three night stay . It worked really well for us . The owner is very friendly too on our short meeting when we arrived . The lodge itself would be quite compact for four but worked well for just two with the dogs sleeping in their beds in the lounge . They were happy enough knowing that we were not far away . Although there is another lodge about 50 yards away it is not visible and you felt very peaceful on the edge of woodland .

Made very welcome by the owner at a very short notice booking. Lodge warm with good central heating and all you need for a quiet relaxing time. Rockliffe and Kipford within 10 minutes and whole of Solway peninsulas in easy driving distances.
