A generally well equiped cottage which was welcoming and quiet. It was ideally located to explore the area. However, I would suggest that a larger frying pan be provided.

This was our first holiday with our young corgi and we chose Aydon Cottage based on its rural location and easy access to countryside and scenic walks. We liked: The mature English country garden (beautiful in the autumn), the age of the property (we would love to know its history) the wildlife (squirrels, rabbit, hedgehog, many birds and more), the heating worked well, the beds were comfortable, an abundance of interesting books, amazing amount of space in the cottage (quite the tardis). Proximity of the cottage to Hadrian’s Wall, Corbridge, Hexham and other nearby villages (I was privileged enough to be staying with my mother who is from the area and so made for a brilliant tour guide). A ball had kindly been left for dogs to play with. The welcoming pack and postcard was nice. Direct communication with the owner, Caroline, was excellent. Wi-Fi readily available if required via BT. Lots of radios/CD players. Good guides for the area including personal notes from the owner. We disliked: feather quilts/cushions (not good for allergy sufferers), moss on some sections of path made things dangerously slippy, mould on some walls and condensation, the garden not being secure (the owner’s sister’s dog scared us standing on the wall in the dark of night and came into the kitchen the following day whilst we had the door open briefly (she did offer to try and control the dog better with a zapper collar). Please note, the Labrador, Amber, is actually a very nice natured dog. No outdoor light at the rear of the property. (The latter two issues could possibly be solved very easily by placing some wire, or a gate over the two open sections that separate the front and rear gardens and a good outdoor light). The shower went cold until both the heating and water were on at the same time, this solved the problem and the water pressure was very good. Overall, we would stay again if the security issues were addressed and I believe the owner hopes to install double glazing at some point which may address the mould/condensation issues. Maybe offer a non-feather duvet.
