    Hoseasons "Ideally located for coast to coast footpath this spacious cottage with French doors is within easy reach of Edinburgh.\n\n\nEnjoying an idyllic situation on the 33000-acre Douglas Estate surrounded by open countryside and panoramic views these three attached holiday cottages set within a courtyard have been renovated and furnished to a 5 star standard and provide excellent accommodation from which to explore the surrounding areas. Countryside walks are available direct from the door and the Southern Upland Way Scotland’s coast to coast long distance walk runs close by. It is an ideal base for hill walking fishing wildlife and bird-watching sightseeing or one of the many country estate pursuits available locally. Nearby Biggar has an array of specialist shops pubs eateries Victorian-style puppet theatre museums boating and paddling pools tennis courts and the famous Hogmanay bonfire and street party. Within easy reach are the cities of Edinburgh with Scotland’s most famous castle dominating the city skyline world-class museums galleries restaurants and bars and Glasgow a vibrant bustling city and home to the Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera.     We have stayed at this cottage several times. Our first visit was around 8 years ago, the locks on the three bathroom/toilet doors were all broken then and on this our most recent visit they still are! The biomass system keeps the house warm but does not seem to heat water sufficiently, only lukewarm water from sinks and bath taps. The showers are electric so they at least do get hot. Location is very remote which hasn't bothered us when visiting previously, however this time we were stuck in with bad weather and its then that the lack of any local conveniences becomes problematic. The local pub isn't currently open as the landlord passed away. In the high winds and snow the TV reception cut out so we didn't have TV for over half our stay. Couple of other small niggles, button in dishwasher has an intermittent fault, some mattresses are far too soft for our preferences. It is a beautiful cottage, spacious and nicely decorated. The scenery is wonderful but be aware that through the winter you can feel very cut off.
