Third visit Love York Summer and Christmas

The location, feel of the cottage itself and the village are fantastic. The cottage is a bit 'worn' (shower needs regrouting, kitchen is very basic, downstairs bathroom run down) but the lounge and bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Our 3yr old enjoyed having room to play and the sofas are big and comfy. No Wi-Fi available which was a shame. Overall we felt it was fairly good value for money for the space and location but not totally up to modern standards for fixtures and fittings.

Wouldn’t book this cottage again. All equipment and furnishings need updating.

On the whole the cottage was very nice, spacious and comfortable. However, while it was basically clean (bedding, towels, bathroom/kitchen), the whole cottage could have done with a good once over. For example there were a lot of cobwebs/dust in corners and especially over the lampshades. There was no toilet roll holder in the downstairs toilet, toilet seat in main bathroom was very cheap and flimsy, the main bedroom light wasn't working plus had no shade. No replacement light bulbs available. Also, in the kitchen, lots of crumbs under the microwave and breadbin! It would have been useful if there was a towel rail/ring in the downstairs toilet plus main bathroom and also a shelf in the main bathroom as there is nowhere to put a wash bag. A working outside light would also have been very useful! It is a nice cottage but could be lovely, it just needs a good freshen up and some TLC!

Very comfortable. Bathroom cistern was slow to fill. Village pub food very appertaining. Nearest shops 40 minutes walk.

Beautiful cottage and garden set in a tranquil village. The cottage was very well equipped. As it is very dark when returning home on a night an outside light would have been handy and also for the back garden. Even though the cottage is dated. The beds were very comfortable and an abundance of towels, sheets, tea towels etc. We stopped for 2 weeks and didn't want to leave as it is very homely set in such beautiful surroundings. Fantastic value for money.

Blacksmiths Cottage was fair value for money. Located in a quiet village with easy access to main roads for York, Leeds, etc. Parking was straightforward and the spacious rear garden was well kept. It was a pity that dogs could not be exercised in the garden.

Lovely quiet location. I did smell of dogs, but it is advertised as pet friendly.

Second time have stayed here. Lovely garden and fortunate enough to get a few days good weather to be able to sit out and enjoy it. Cottage is comfortable but a bit tired looking. Could do with a lick of paint. Gate into garden is extremely difficult to open to get bins in and out and you have to come out that way to be able to leave keys on departure

Lovely cottage, we all loved it! X
