Please note There are 2 steps to the decking and hot tub and there is a fenced pond in the grounds adjacent to the garden.\n\n This detached and quintessential romantic hideaway lies deep in the Sutherland hills on the owner’s croft with sheep and beef cattle. Over 200 years old and accessed by a track it has 2ft thick stone walls and traditional tin roof and has undergone a unique and innovative conversion together with an adjoining stone barn. Transformed into a holiday home offering a bright and contemporary living space it retains the very best of its original charm. A large wood burner and uninterrupted views across miles of open hillside as well as a hot tub on the elevated decking outside add to the experience.\nThe stunning main living area is open plan with a large wood burner at one end and a well-equipped contemporary kitchen with handmade units at the other. Steep ladder stairs lead up from the kitchen to a bedroom which occupies the whole of the mezzanine area. Very low double doors open through to the ground floor en-suite bedroom but due to the height and depth of the stone wall it is advisable to access this bedroom from the part-covered walkway around the perimeter of the cottage. This charming bedroom has a hairdryer provided and a feature claw-foot bath as well as an adjoining en-suite. At the opposite end of the cottage is a bright shower room accessed via the part-covered decking. Another bedroom also with hairdryer provided is located within a separate stone barn conversion a few steps from the main cottage and enjoys the same incredible views down the glen to the hills beyond. Capercaillie Cottage is superbly well equipped and furnished with deep leather sofas and high quality appliances throughout. It is set within 1 acre of grounds with raised decking and hot tub located just outside the main entrance with a feature ornamental pond below.\nThe owners work 300 acres of the surrounding croftland and hills which you are welcome to explore with their prior permission. Wildlife is prolific in the area with red deer pine martens and abundant birdlife including rare red kites golden eagles oystercatchers and curlews. Whilst the location is completely secluded the charming village of Rogart is 4 miles away with its thriving village pub and restaurant shop post office and railway station. Visit historic and archeological sites as well as romantic castles such as Dunrobin seat of the Dukes of Sutherland. Mountain biking along lovely forest trails golf fishing and various watersports are all available. The picturesque seaside town of Dornoch with its award-winning sandy beach and championship golf course is just 20 minutes’ drive away. For the less energetic sit back relax enjoy the hot tub and watch the ever-changing scenery from this inspiring and totally unspoilt location. Beach 12 miles. Shop pub and restaurant 4 miles.     Absolutely amazing. 10 out of 10 all round... Mackie and Elmear are the perfect hosts and deliver customer service to the highest degree.. 13 years of travelling to Scotland and this was by far the best we’ve stayed in... 1 word.. Truly Awesome.

    Capercaillie is a beautiful little cottage, the hosts were wonderful and very hospitable, nothing was too much trouble. There was a plentiful supply of logs for the log burner, even a wooden swing overlooking the pond. Every little detail had been thought of. We go away every Christmas and this was the first time I was lost for words on arrival. Every day we had a beautiful red Robin visit us along with with a noisy pheasant who we fondly nicknamed 'Mr Fezzy'. All in all a wonderful and relaxing break. We would definitely return. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us we loved it!

    Great week spent with the kids and our flat coated retriever. This is a real get away from it all cottage and we made the most of the cosy fire, outside seating and throws , and of course the hot tub. Our host Mackie was so helpful and considerate - we thoroughly enjoyed our week!!!

    Fantastic cottage in a great location. Very dog-friendly. Very kind and considerate hosts. We came for a holiday home in a quiet and rural setting as a base camp for exploring the eastern and northern Highlands. Capercaillie Cottage was exactly what we were looking for. Beautifully built to a very high standard. Would definitely return.

    A wonderful relaxing week at Capercaillie. Perfect for exploring both east and west coasts. Situated in wild and remote countryside, yet easy to access. The cottage itself is rustic, quirky, immaculately clean and very well equipped. The separate little annexe room just perfect when daughter and partner decided to come with us too. Dog friendly with lots of walks and a secure garden - lovely pond which was fenced off, although he found his way through and took a dip once (oops - sorry). Hot tub just right for relaxing after days out sightseeing, watching the sun go down over the heathery moors. Very mindful. Lovely friendly hosts, lots of helpful sightseeing suggestions including sublime pies from Lochinver. Dornoch - special little town for exploring and coffees, recommend the village store and deli! Local beaches amazing, walked for miles without seeing anyone. Thank you - loved it

    A beautifully restored barn with great attention to detail. Fabulous peaceful location Hosts were v friendly and couldnt do enough to help us enjoy our stay...even gave us use of a car when ours ended up at a local garage! Recommended without exception. Thank you for a wonderful week.

    Beautiful well presented cottage with the added benefits of a peaceful and tranquil setting in which to sit and unwind in the hot tub. Mackle & Eimear are great hosts, very helpful, informative, but happy not to impose on guests and respect their privacy. The drive from East to West coast I’d gorgeous, breathtaking and well worth doing. Our dogs loved the secure garden and owners fields, which they were allowed to explore. We all left on Saturday with a heavy heart, after a great relaxing week.

    Great cottage with quirky features, it has everything you would need for a perfect holiday. 100% safe for our dogs and hot tub was a real bonus after our daily walks. Lots of nice forest walks and beautiful beaches to visit, we had the beaches to ourselves most days... just a perfect holiday x will definitely return
