Captain’s House is a modern town house in a fantastic location, situated just a short walk away from the bustling heart of Whitby on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. It has four bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and an open plan kitchen/dining area, which has views of the river and steam railway, and makes for a great social hub! There is also a separate living room with leather corner sofa with reclining seats - perfect to relax in after an exciting day out. Outside is a good-sized garden, a suntrap in good weather, and which has views of the river and railway and you can see the steam train leave Whitby Station. This location is a haven for walkers and cyclists, and many walks can be accessed from the doorstep, including a riverside walk along the Esk or along the disused railway line between Whitby and Scarborough, known as the Cinder Track, and which calls at picturesque Robin Hood’s Bay. There is even an enclosed playground for the kids in front of the house.

Famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’ novel, Whitby has a Gothic flavour with its abbey atop the famous 199 steps offering exhilarating views every way you turn from this natural vantage point, across the harbour and town, and into the countryside beyond. The ruins of the abbey stand proudly on top of the East Cliff headland above the busy seaside town of Whitby. The old town has cobbled streets and independent shops galore, as well as a fantastic foodie scene with everything from award-winning fish and chips to gastro pubs, bistros and traditional pub fayre. There are plenty of tea rooms and coffee shops mixed amongst the ice cream parlours and pubs with live music all year round. Whitby plays host to many different festivals and events from the bi-annual Goth weekends, a 60s music festival, a regatta and popular Folk Festival, so keep an eye on the calendar of events. There is a 2 mile stretch of golden sand to explore with rock pools and fossil hunting, or take a boat trip out to sea for a different view of this striking coastline.

Venture further afield and visit the North York Moors National Park for some stunning scenery. Take a steam train journey into the heart of the National Park from Whitby station and snake into lush greenery. You can also visit ‘Aidensfield’ from the TV series ’Heartbeat’ at Goathland. Explore the Yorkshire Heritage Coast and discover the many hidden gems, such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes which are all a short drive away. The traditional seaside town of Scarborough is 20 miles to the south and has plenty to offer, with its expanse of beaches, a waterpark and an open-air theatre which has regular international bands and acts performing throughout the summer. There is so much more in the area, including the walled city of York, Pickering and an abundance of historic abbeys across North Yorkshire. For family fun, visit Flamingo Land theme park or take a day trip across to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Beach ½ mile. Shop 250 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
Captain’s House can be booked together with Bosun’s Quarters (UK2495), 100 yards away, to accommodate up to 12 guests.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in this immaculate house as a family of 8 aged from 9 to 79. The house felt spacious and is perfectly located for anyone wanting to enjoy a traditional seaside holiday in Whitby. We would definitely stay here again.

7 adults and two toddlers, fabulous holiday, even the changeable weather didn't dampen our experience. The house was great, safe for the toddlers, very clean, very comfortable and with excellent facilities. Would highly recommend and would book it again.

Perfect place to stay with a young family. We have 1 year old twins... there was a nice big kitchen, utility room, safe lounge and stair gates on all the stairs. We couldn’t have asked for anymore. Location good also.. less than 10 minutes walk to the centre of Whitby

My only complaint was with the bottom floor bedroom, when people walk on the middle floor you can hear every footstep which was quite annoying when trying to sleep, other than that the accommodation was at a very good standard

The house was lovely and clean. We were very pleased with the size of the property and it felt very spacious, with plenty of room. We had 2 childrens buggies and these fitted into the entrance hall no problem, still with plenty of room to get in and out without having to move them about to make way.The stair gates were on top and bottom of each set of stairs, which was wonderful and felt very safe. Everything you could want was provided in the kitchen, and the welcome pack was a lovely personal touch. It was a pleasant walk into Whitby along the estuary, and took no time at all. We would recommend this property to friends and are hoping to return next year.

Spacious and well-equipped, Captain's House was a great location for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. We loved hearing and seeing the steam train pull out of Whitby Station each morning! The house has its own parking space for two cars which is a real plus in Whitby where parking is at a premium. It is only a short walk into the town with its interesting alleyways, shops, restaurants and pubs. The house was lovely and clean with comfy beds and fluffy towels. Our only criticism would be the plastic table covering in the kitchen which had seen better days and let down the otherwise stylish kitchen/diner.
