Lovely little cottage. We had a fantastic stay. It just needs a bit of TLC especially the wooden seating area outside. When we first arrived the TV wasn't working but the hosts went out of their way for us. They fixed the Sky, brought us DVDs and a thoughtful care package. We would happily stay here again.

The cottage is not too bad inside, but needs some maintenance. Some doors did not open properly, the shower was not as clean as I would expect, it needed a shower curtain and a non slip mat. The water in the kitchen sink was not hot enough for washing up, only the grill oven was working. Outside the deck is poorly maintained, uneven and dangerous. The mattresses are in need of replacement. No milk was left for us, which would have been a disaster, had we arrived 30 minutes later, as the village shop closes before 7 pm. The directions were inadequate for anyone who has no idea what ‘shinty’ is I.e. anyone NOT from Scotland. The entry gate is an issue, we had to leave it open the whole time we were there, as there is nowhere safe to park close to the gate in order to open it and close it. The steps into the entrance are steep and slippery, not ideal for those with limited mobility. A ramp or rail would help, my 93 year old mother slipped off the bottom step, luckily our car broke her fall, or she may have ended up In hospital.

The cottage Carnethy is a really lovely cottage inside. With lovely modern facilities. The garden was a great size and had a lovely view. But the only downside was the decking outside the cottage. It is really really run down and in parts I think dangerous. I was very glad we did not have any grandchildren with us as it could have turned out to be a real hazard. On first arriving at the cottage before going inside my husband and I just looked at each other in dismay as the decking really is an eyesore. Thankfully inside we were not disappointed. Its had a lovely modern kitchen and bathroom with good facilities. Although the previous occupants must have used the fire as it hadn't been cleaned out. But the cottage is a in a lovely part of the country. There is a useful shop nearby that sold everything and a good hotel in Kames just down the road near a small beach. We had a really lovely week there and the weather was fabulous. Its just a shame that the decking is in such a bad state of repair as it distracts from what is a great place to stay. ps We arrived after 6pm on the Saturday, and had forgotten to bring milk. The shop was shut so be warned to bring everything with you if you are arriving after 5pm.

Had a really nice stay in Carnethy, the layout ,size and cleanliness was very good, one small problem is the bed in main room,it probably needs replacement as every time you move makes loud creaking noises, the interior of the house is very nice and well decorated, great shower room and plenty of space but ,and because we had such a great time don’t really ,feel happy about having to mention this, feel that the outside of house needs little bit attention decking very uneven, does need sorting for safety sake as the view is fabulous, and a great size, the porch exterior wood needs replacing in places .wouldnt take a lot but The house on outside does not do justice to the really lovely inside .we would book again any time .

Kames is a great place for a holiday - access to Bute, Portavadie ferry and Kintyre - but the cottage is not well-located locally, being opposite a scrapyard and on a small Council estate. The patio, cottage exterior and garden are all showing signs of decay. None of this spoiled the holiday - we enjoyed the week.
