There are pubs, restaurants and a shop nearby in Braithwaite and a wealth of amenities in Keswick including the ’Theatre by the Lake’.

    We enjoyed a week here in August, 4 adults and 2 toddlers. It was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. It was disappointing and surprising that no towels were provided and there was no wifi either. That was slightly problematic due to lack of reception on mobile phone in that area. Overall we did have a lovely relaxing holiday and enjoyed the view from the living room window and the lovely communal garden too.

    This was the third time at Carrigbaun as we really like the location. However we would expect to have the provision of WiFi and towels as we see that other places have these things for their guests.

    Carrigbaun was the best accommodation I have stayed at in the UK. The lack of WiFi (odd in this day and age) prevented on-line researching places to visit and pubs to eat at etc. This did however, have the benefit of making my children gather round the table in the evening to play the provided board games instead of being on social media 24/7. My only other gripe is that the electric heating element in the bathroom radiators did not switch on to dry towels. Considering the gas and electric costs are included in the overall price, it was not a problem for us to switch on the central heating, but this could be inconvenient during a hot summer. For these reasons I only scored 9/10 for comfort and equipment. But on the positive side, the owner has gone to great lengths (and cost) to provide a beautifully furnished large 3 bed apartment with spectacular views. Everything (apart from towels) was provided and the bathrooms and kitchen were very well equipped. The showers pumped out lots of hot water from the combi boiler, so there was no problem waiting for hot water to heat up before the next person could shower. I would not hesitate to return to Carrigbaun and if you read the guest book, several families have done just that over the years.
