This large country house is set on a wooded knoll and has been skilfully converted into six spacious holiday houses which are owned by the Caravan Club Ltd and situated on the edge of one of their immaculately kept small touring caravan parks. The house consists of a two storey cottage wing W42981 a first floor apartment W42982 a ground floor garden apartment W42983 two ground floor apartments W42984 and W42986 and a first floor balcony apartment W42985.\nThere’s a lot to see and do in the immediate area. Close by is beautiful Cartmel Priory and the stately homes at Holker Hall Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall. 3 miles west along the coast is the refined small seaside town of Grange-over-Sands with lots of shops golf and fishing. The properties make an excellent touring base for the whole of the southern Lake District.     The cottage is fine, if a little tired, though i would guess it is a converted office, and it doesn't feel very 'homely'. Having said that, it was warm, dry and very clean: it had everything we required, though the wifi was pitiful. Its on a caravan site, which has good or bad points, depending on your point of view, and the site is a bit isolated, there is a local hotel that is open to the public, otherwise its about a 3 mile walk in to Grange (lovely small town BTW). Overall very satisfactory, but not wow.

    Cottage and staff were excellent. Only negative was the bottle bank and waste area was right outside our bedroom window so got woken up every morning by crashing bottles etc. Also the main bin storage area was next to our cottage so again got woken up at 7 a.m by the bin lorry followed by bottle collection. Both very noisy. If possible may be worth relocating these areas to where toilet/shower blocks are so wouldn't disturb residents.

    We enjoyed staying in this well equipped cottage. Being on the Caravan Club site was a plus for us and it took us back to our own caravan days. It was useful to have the Site Reception for milk and the information cabin for details of local activities. Our only complaint was that the lighting in the sitting area was not good enough to read in the evening - maybe we were only expected to watch TV?!

    A return visit to Cartmel Cottage. Not disappointed. A couple of minor problems resolved quickly by the friendly caravan site wardens.

    Web page was completely inaccurate. When I made the booking the info stated the cottage was part of Meathop Hall in 10 acres of grounds adjacent to the caravan site. The main photo was of Meathop Hall. The cottage was actually on the caravan site with the bin store and water points just outside the garden fence. This meant we had a continuous stream of people peering through the fence and bin lids clattering from before first light until after 11p.m.. Lovely Cottage but all the pans and dishes were dirty and the vacuum needed to be emptied and unclogged before I could remove the cobwebs. Not an ideal start. Also the nearby hotel which serves food only does evening meals and was not at all friendly.
