It is an ideal base for two couples or a family as both bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom. Beamed throughout and boasting solar underfloor heating with the benefit of a wood-burning stove in the part-galleried living space guests will feel relaxed in these stylish surroundings whatever the weather. The holiday property is situated in the owner’s 37½-acre grounds surrounded by fields with sheep geese ducks and chickens and the owner also has a shrub and perennial nursery. Guests have sole use of the orchard area. Herstmonceux is not only home to the hands-on Observatory Science Centre housed amongst the domes and telescopes of the former Royal Greenwich Observatory there is the magnificent Herstmonceux Castle where a stroll can be taken around the Elizabethan gardens. The town also produces Henner’s medal-winning sparkling wine. Because Sussex has a sunny climate and chalky subsoil the same as that in Champagne in France the county also produces wonderful sparkling wines. If the beach calls head for Pevensey where the Romans landed and you can tackle the beautiful 31-mile 1066 Country Walk which starts at Pevensey via Herstmonceux and on to Battle and then the Cinque Port town of Rye. Golf and fishing lakes close by. Trains to London from Polegate. Beach 8 miles. Shop pub and restaurant 1¼ miles. \n " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/926/840/926628.jpg PTTP

Lovely cottage, great location. Quiet, comfortable and welcoming, with owners on hand nearby. Very relaxing holiday, thank you.

We had a wonderful 3 nights in the barn. Even though we arrived during storm Dennis and a power cut, the lovely owners did all they could to make us comfortable. It was actually quite fun to experience a black out, the log fire kept us warm! The kitchen was so well appointed and had every mod con, and was so clean it was like it had only just been installed! The barn was very spacious and location wise it was brilliant for local beaches, lovely towns like Battle and fantastic foodie pubs. I recommend the Lamb Inn for roast dinner. We also drove to Camber sands which was incredible and only 30 / 40 mins away. We ate lunch out every day somewhere different and snuggled up at night by the fire. Our dog loved the log fire! The only thing i would say is the sofa seating was quite small and would have benefitted from a armchair/ footstools or even a bigger corner sofa. There is so much space, but the three of us struggled to get really comfy on the current sofa. But on the whole I would rate this place a ten! Thank you to the owners who were lovely and were very accessible.

lovely barn, spacious and very clean. Nice kitchen, bathrooms and open lounge/dining area. Lovely high beamed ceilings. Nicely decorated for Christmas. Lovely hamper of goodies which was very welcoming. For us the sofas are quite uncomfortable even though they looked very new. The bedrooms were great but, again for us the beds are too soft. But others may like that!

A wonderful part of England. Perfect location and very friendly owners, it couldn't have been better. Super homemade marmalade in the very generous welcome pack - delicious! Thank you.

We had a lovely stay at this beautifully restored barn. It is very comfortable and very well equipped situated in attractive grounds (complete with roaming well behaved peacock) quite a distance (especially in the dark at night!!) down a one track country lane. It is an excellent base to explore a diverse range of sights and places from the delights of Great Dixter to the shingle of Dungeness to the homes of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell. Throw in the Birling Gap and Beachy Head, the Pavilion at Bexhill and the wonderful farm shops and wineries and you have the recipe for a fabulous week. There are shops in the village and the nearby Bull's Head is worth a visit for Sunday lunch. It's a gorgeous barn with very helpful owners and is thoroughly recommended.

The barn is very nice and very close to the owners property. It is nice and comfortable but for us the bed mattresses were far too soft. There are some nice pubs and restaurants in the local village but we felt that they were too far away to walk, especially, as the lane to the village is very narrow and unlit. Apart from the above we had a good time, the property has all mod cons and is light and airy.

Chilsham Barn offers excellent accommodation and facilities. We really enjoyed our holiday there. The owners were also very helpful.
