Lovingly renovated, this beautiful oak framed Sussex barn conversion stands detached, and was originally built in the 1800s. It is an ideal base for two couples or a family, as both bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom. Beamed throughout and boasting solar underfloor heating with the benefit of a wood-burning stove in the part-galleried living space, guests will feel relaxed in these stylish surroundings, whatever the weather. The holiday property is situated in the owner’s 37½-acre grounds, surrounded by fields with sheep, geese, ducks and chickens, and the owner also has a shrub and perennial nursery. Guests have sole use of the orchard area. Herstmonceux is not only home to the hands-on Observatory Science Centre housed amongst the domes and telescopes of the former Royal Greenwich Observatory, there is the magnificent Herstmonceux Castle where a stroll can be taken around the Elizabethan gardens. The town also produces Henner’s medal-winning sparkling wine. Because Sussex has a sunny climate and chalky subsoil (the same as that in Champagne in France), the county also produces wonderful sparkling wines. If the beach calls, head for Pevensey where the Romans landed, and you can tackle the beautiful 31-mile 1066 Country Walk which starts at Pevensey via Herstmonceux, and on to Battle and then the Cinque Port town of Rye. Golf and fishing lakes close by. Trains to London from Polegate. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¼ miles.

We spent a midweek at Chilsham Barn during the Easter holidays. It's a very beautiful and comfortable barn conversion in very peaceful and quiet surroundings. The barn is very well equipped, with an eye for detail. There are two bathrooms, which made it excellent for a couple and two children. The hosts made us feel very welcome. There were Easter decorations and a welcome basket. We highly recommend Chilsham Barn for a stay in the beautiful South.

The barn is located in a nice rural area with great grounds if you take a dog with you. Log burner is great and adds to the warmth of the place. Owners were very friendly. Furniture in property was adequate and plenty to do in surrounding areas.

Beautiful barn, exactly like the photos. Lovely owners, who were very accommodating. Booked the barn for a special birthday weekend for my sisters. The weather was appalling, but the lovely log burner with complimentary logs and the welcoming bottle of wine, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated. Very happy to recommend......

Well what can I say, what a treat to stay at this converted Barn. Myself, my partner and my French Bulldog came to stay here end of August 2018. We were not disappointed, the minute you get there you relax. The barn is converted to a very high standard, kitchen high spec and great to cook in. The owners were great, they only made themselves available if you wanted them. Their eldest son Anthony took us on a tour round the grounds. You have full use of the grounds but your dog must be kept on a lead. It has ponds and various fields with different animals in. The property itself the minute you walk in all you can smell is oak, it is wonderfully made. It has a wood burner which we had on most evenings, the family supply wood for a small charge if needed. Both the bedrooms have en suites, with bath and shower, the beds were a bit hard but with all the fresh air slept well. Living room has games and television with Netflix and freeview and DVD player. They have leaflets and maps of the local area. The kitchen is top class and I cooked up a storm (please remember to bring all foods needed). The family were very helpful and any need was met. On the Sunday two friends came and the family lent us their BBQ with charcoal. Luckily we had the weather on our side and spent all day Sunday chilling in the gardens. There are local towns and supermarkets only 10 minute drive away. Will definately be returning to this amazing place. Thank you to Nick and Lorena for making our stay so wonderful.
