The cottage had a funny smell - wet dogs. I think the mat in lounge needs changing, maybe wet dogs on there and not dried properly causing smell. But other than that fantastic cottage

I really enjoyed my stay at Church View. It's a comfortable, well-maintained house in a lovely quiet village. The excellent pub is 40m away, with good food, and the village coffee shop is surprisingly good. Threlkeld is perfect for hiking Blencathra, just behind, and there are buses to Keswick and Penrith train station, so it's a good choice if you don't have a car. Cottage was well-equipped, with all the kitchen equipment I needed (including a cafetiere), beds were comfortable and two showers were clean, though a bit small. Only downsides for me were the buses that pass just outside the window every hour or so (the two main bedrooms are upstairs and face the road; the fact that there isn't a garden (go to the pub next door); and the fact that the lounge carpet smelled of dog or something worse. In the end we just rolled up the carpet and moved it to a different room as it made the lounge smell. But all in all I liked the cosy feel of the cottage, the slate and wood details and the perfect location. I'd stay again. I wish it was cold enough to have used the fireplace!

Cottage was comfortable for five adults. Lovely clean and comfortable beds. Great walks for the dogs literally behind the cottage. Cleaning could have been better, paintwork needed a good dust and wipe, freezer too needed a good clean couldn’t use for food. Also as we had two dogs with us we needed to clean up dog hairs daily but brushes and hoover old and not very efficient. Overall a nice comfortable and warm cottage , if the niggles are sorted it could be a fantastic place for a break.

Great cottage, good location for walking. Also not far away from Keswick for shopping.

Felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. The cottage was ideal for our adult family group of five and dog. Plenty of heating and hot water. The owners have made a great job of updating and fitting out the property. The under floor heating was great! Access to Blencathra was so convenient, we didn't even miss the use of a private garden. We didn't have a car on this occasion, but found the bus service very good, even over the Christmas holiday period, to get in and around Keswick. The beds were the most comfortable of any cottage we have stayed in. We will definitely be booking a return visit.

A return to this excellent cottage in a lovely location with walks onto the fells from the front door, especially Blencathra. A very short walk to the horse and farrier for excellent food and real ale. Not far from Keswick and other Lakeland locations either driving, or using the bus which goes regularly from outside the farrier with connections to other parts of the lakes.

A very nice little cottage, ideal for walking and getting into Keswick and further afield. I think that sleeping 7 would be a real squash and it lacks facilities for that amount of people. It could do with a bathroom downstairs. It would be lovely if it had a garden, but that can't be changed. Pubs within walking distance, but no shop. Would stay there again but only the 2 of us.

The cottage and location were excellent, the only negative I would give is there is no garden and the write up does not make this obvious and although it does not actually say there is one the photos do look like a garden out the back. There is a small paved front garden but its faces the street so no privacy but apart from that I could not fault the cottage or area. I stayed there with 5 adult's and 2 dogs( hence needing a garden) and plenty of space for us all. Everything you could possibly need in the cottage and very clean and tidy.
