• About Conheath Gatelodge

This single-storey, traditional Georgian cottage boasts original features, cosy open fire and garden with views over the Nith estuary.

Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Nith Estuary, these detached, single-storey holiday cottages have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to the STB’s ‘4 Star’ standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the door with abundant birds and wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile.

Delightful and cosy Georgian lodge cottage. Hallway with step. Sitting room with open fire. Well-equipped kitchen/dining room. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

A superb holiday cottage in a very peaceful, tranquil location. We were there during the recent 70mph storms but you wouldn't have known it from within the cottage. It was as snug as bug during the peak. The cottage itself is right beside the entrance so very easy to locate but I'd recommend you approach it from the Dumfries side and not the Glencaple side - the entrance is on a very sharp blind corner and crossing the white line to turn into the gates is not for the faint hearted. The cottage has a very large kitchen with everything you'd need for your stay - with double aspect views of the cows in the nearby fields. The lounge is snug but very comfortable for up to 4 people - again views over the fields. The two bedrooms are very comfortable with the master having a stunning view towards Criffel and the river. There is plenty of hot water for the bathrooms and the cottage overall is well heated. Unfortunately due to the weather we didn't spend much time in the lovely garden but on the last day, when the sun shone brightly in a blue sky, I could see what a sun trap it would be in the morning and also in the evening. Wifi worked but I do carry my own mifi connection (Three) and the connection was sound. A well located cottage for viewing sites such as Caerlaverock, Sweet Heart Abbey, Threave Castle as well as more farther afield. The owner was very welcoming and there if you did need anything. Can thoroughly recommend this property if you want to just get away and recharge your soul.
