Peacefully situated in extensive, beautifully landscaped and maintained gardens, Low Cordorcan and Wee Cordorcan enjoy an enviable position at the start of the RSPB nature reserve at Wood of Cree. Converted from former barns, Wee Cordorcan stands detached, whilst Low Cordorcan is semi-detached, adjoining the owner’s home. The Wood of Cree is the largest area of ancient woodland in southern Scotland and is abundant with bird and wildlife. In spring the wood is carpeted with bluebells and alive with the sound of birdsong, as residents are joined by redstarts, pied flycatchers and garden warblers. By the river you may see goosander and common sandpiper, with teals, snipe and water rails in the riverside meadows. In the autumn, whooper swans and goldeneye arrive from the Arctic. A raised platform gives good views out over the river where otter are often seen.

Cordorcan Cottages are located only 5 miles from the centre of Newton Stewart with many excellent shops and places to eat. With the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park close by, the cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of south west Scotland. The location is perfect for walkers, golfers and cyclists, with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses. There is an abundance of fishing, bird watching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula. Beach 29 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 5 miles.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place! We loved the cottage and its location, as well as the birds in the garden (and bats in the evening). Some excellent walks, and a good centre for visiting Galloway. Our hosts were friendly and helpful.

The Landscape around Low Cordorcan was breathtaking for us. We chose is because we love activities in tranquil nature. It was our fifth time in Scotland, but the first time in Dumfries and Galloway. And we couldn´t have chosen better. It is a hidden secret. Tony and Marie are simply very very nice and ancious to satisfy wishes. But we had no. The cottage was fully equipped and very clean, 5miles away in Newton Steward there is a Sainsbury and Aldi for food and good restaurants to eat. There are countless facilities to walk and bike. Cultural things, historical sites and beautiful gardens are reachable within an hour drive.

This is a superb property for birdwatchers. On the bird feeders we saw redpoll, siskins and a great spotted woodpecker as well as more common tits and finches. Locally we saw a female hen harrier and buzzards. The bluebells in the woods were amazing, the best we have seen anywhere. The heating was very efficient and the kitchen was well equipped. The owners were on hand and very helpful when needed.

My wife and I spent a week at Low Corcoran. The cottage had everything we needed, the kitchen is well equipped, everything you need to make a roast dinner if you want to! We had our Springer Spaniel with us and Tony and Marie, the owners who live next door were very accommodating and didn’t mind the dog one bit. The owners are very informative about the area and were happy to answer any questions we had. The reasons for the scores of 9 in my review are the cottage doesn’t have a bath and if you need to shop you have to drive to Newton Stewart approximately 4 miles away. That is not a complaint it is just to give you information if you are thinking of renting the cottage. We are going to return, hopefully later in the year. If you enjoy walking and seeing wildlife then you are not going to be disappointed with this cottage.
