Very well equipped cottage. High standard of furnishings with lovely bed linen. Walking distance to pub though menu looked tired and hence we didn’t actually try it. The bakery no longer functions as a bakery but only as a tea shop. We twice tried to go to the village shop within the opening hours displayed only to find it closed. Couldn’t find any instructions in barn about recycling but eventually discovered village recycling point next to village hall. Owner pointedly keeping out of the way across the courtyard. Twice tried knocking at his door with a couple of queries but no one answered.

Positives within of good pub restaurant , but closed over Christmas . Owner lives opposite , but not friendly and we never actually saw her . Contrary to the rest of the village who are extremely friendly , helpful and supportive . Amazing walk up the fell . Very comfortable bed and the barn was very warm . Electronic equipment dated and no Wi fi . The DVD player made strange noises but worked .

The score would have been way higher but for: no WiFi and no phone coverage either, so dont think you can use your 4g inside. Also the bedding and towels had been washed in something with an overpowering smell, I don’t just mean a little scented, so if you are asthmatic, have sensitive skin or allergies this is not the place for you. It effected the whole upstairs area. This basically ruined our stay which otherwise would have been fabulous as the barn is really lovely, well equippped and great location. Seating isn’t that comfy if you are staying for a number of nights and want to watch tv each evening. It was such a shame and we hope the owners will rethink their washing arrangements as we would love to stay there again.
