Please note There is 1 step in the garden.\n\n Situated on a promontory and enjoying spectacular sea views Ethel’s House is a detached stone cottage set in its own garden adjacent to a working croft. Much loved by its original family this traditional stone cottage was painstakingly moved stone by stone to a higher vantage point in the village of Armadale on the far north-west coast of Scotland. The current owners have completely renovated this charming cottage and it now provides a good standard of accommodation in a truly superb setting.\nEntering through the pretty patio gardens that look out across the sea a hallway leads through to the main accommodation. There is a delightful living room with leather sofa suite and a cosy wood burner. The kitchendining room is extremely well-equipped with contemporary built-in units and a good sized solid wood dining table. All the windows look out across the bay. There is a large shower room on this floor. Upstairs there are three very attractively decorated and furnished bedrooms. Skylight windows ensure that visitors can encounter the dramatic sunrises and sunsets afforded by the clear unpolluted skies in this part of the Highlands and for those who prefer black out blinds are built-in too. The cottage has oak flooring on the ground floor high quality wool carpeting in the bedrooms and underfloor heating throughout.\nSituated just off the renowned North Coast 500 route in the quiet hamlet of Armadale this cottage is ideal for visitors wishing to explore this totally unspoilt area. Sea otters are regularly spotted on the shoreline below the cottage and whales basking sharks porpoises and seals all frequent the local waters. There are superb walks direct from the cottage and numerous outdoor activities close by including kayaking sailing hill walking fishing surfing golf and plenty of archaeological sites and historic places of interest. In winter months it is often possible to see the Northern Lights from the cottage garden. The nearby villages of Melvich and Bettyhill both within 10 minutes’ drive have a good selection of amenities including pub restaurant café and a small local shop. The beaches along this coastline are renowned for their wide sandy bays with high sand dunes and spectacular mountain backdrops. Beach ½ mile. Shop 7 miles pub and restaurant 3 miles. Absolutely first class in every respect (we have stayed in all categories of accommodation over the last 30 plus years together)this cottage exceeded all our expectations by a good margin highly recommended

A genuinely well appointed clean comfortable cosy cottage with a fabulous outlook to the sea. Very tastefully decorated in a contemporary style throughout with all the necessary creature comforts that you would need to satisfy a holiday away from home plus a generous welcome pack including some delightful ‘homemade’ treats! Highly recommend.

Fantastic cottage, very comfortable, great location, everything you could need for a relaxing break

    out of 10

Excellent and in our opinion faultless. The property is immaculate. Welcome pack goes way beyond what anyone could wish for. Also includes welcome pack for dogs. To provide all the wood burning materials is a complete new to us. You normally have a starter kit and then you buy your own. The location is stunning. Amenities are there if they suit your needs. It's down to individual needs not the host.

Lovely cottage in a wonderful location. All the basics are done very well, with the result that this is a very comfortable place to stay. I would definitely recommend.

The cottage was in excellent condition and had everything we required. Plenty of space. All equipment was provided for my young son and at no point did I find it difficult to manage. The location is very remote which is what we wanted however this does mean you need a car to access any form of amenities. Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.

Thank you for the welcome pack, even one for the dog though we left ours at home. The house is lovely with everything you need, and it's sits in a perfect location with a stunning views near the beach which we had all to ourselves. Lovely cakes in the Store Cafe in Bettyhill worth a visit. Great for touring Durness Smoo Cave and beautiful Sango Bay with its white sands and clear water. Be careful on the single track roads if you are not used to driving on these roads. Would highly recommend and hope to return.

Definitely a cottage we would recommend to family and friends. Lovely to have such a fabulous view from the rooms, well presented and the owner very helpful. Due to location, clearly the local amenities are limited but drive a little further into Thurso and everything is catered for - and a scenic drive as you do so. Going away with 2 teenage boys there were some great experiences and views as we went out, the beach a short walk from the cottage was a hit and then there was wi-fi back at the cottage meaning we had no complaints from them. A superb stay.
