Situated on a promontory and enjoying spectacular sea views, Ethel’s House is a detached stone cottage set in its own garden, adjacent to a working croft. Much loved by its original family, this traditional stone cottage was painstakingly moved stone by stone to a higher vantage point in the village of Armadale on the far north-west coast of Scotland. The current owners have completely renovated this charming cottage and it now provides a good standard of accommodation in a truly superb setting.
Entering through the pretty patio gardens that look out across the sea, a hallway leads through to the main accommodation. There is a delightful living room with leather sofa suite. The kitchen/dining room is extremely well-equipped with contemporary built-in units and a good sized solid wood dining table. All the windows look out across the bay. There is a large shower room on this floor. Upstairs there are three very attractively decorated and furnished bedrooms. Skylight windows ensure that visitors can encounter the dramatic sunrises and sunsets afforded by the clear unpolluted skies in this part of the Highlands (and for those who prefer, black out blinds are built-in too!). The cottage has oak flooring on the ground floor, high quality wool carpeting in the bedrooms and underfloor heating throughout.
Situated just off the renowned North Coast 500 route, in the quiet hamlet of Armadale, this cottage is ideal for visitors wishing to explore this totally unspoilt area. Sea otters are regularly spotted on the shoreline below the cottage and whales, basking sharks, porpoises and seals all frequent the local waters. There are superb walks direct from the cottage and numerous outdoor activities close by, including kayaking, sailing, hill walking, fishing, surfing, golf and plenty of archaeological sites and historic places of interest. In winter months it is often possible to see the Northern Lights from the cottage garden. The nearby villages of Melvich and Bettyhill, both within 10 minutes’ drive, have a good selection of amenities, including pub, restaurant, café and a small local shop. The beaches along this coastline are renowned for their wide sandy bays with high sand dunes, and spectacular mountain backdrops. Beach ½ mile. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

The cottage was in excellent condition and had everything we required. Plenty of space. All equipment was provided for my young son and at no point did I find it difficult to manage. The location is very remote which is what we wanted however this does mean you need a car to access any form of amenities. Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.

Thank you for the welcome pack, even one for the dog though we left ours at home. The house is lovely with everything you need, and it's sits in a perfect location with a stunning views near the beach which we had all to ourselves. Lovely cakes in the Store Cafe in Bettyhill worth a visit. Great for touring Durness Smoo Cave and beautiful Sango Bay with its white sands and clear water. Be careful on the single track roads if you are not used to driving on these roads. Would highly recommend and hope to return.

Definitely a cottage we would recommend to family and friends. Lovely to have such a fabulous view from the rooms, well presented and the owner very helpful. Due to location, clearly the local amenities are limited but drive a little further into Thurso and everything is catered for - and a scenic drive as you do so. Going away with 2 teenage boys there were some great experiences and views as we went out, the beach a short walk from the cottage was a hit and then there was wi-fi back at the cottage meaning we had no complaints from them. A superb stay.

We visited during March 19. Wonderful cottage, home from home comfort. The best cottage we have stayed in by far. Amazing views of Armadale bay and surrounding hills. Plenty of places, beaches to visit.

I cannot recommend this cottage enough, from the host herself, who went above and beyond expectations after an eventful journey, to the generous welcome pack, the little thoughtful extras such as a a warm outdoor hose to wash off muddy dogs, pet towels that are provided, super comfy beds and generous supply of logs and peat for the log burner. Not to mention the amazing view. This place is literally perfect and we will 100% be booking again.

Beautifully renovated and very well-equipped cottage overlooking Armadale Bay. Easy access to the coast road, and local walks to the beach and hills including the abandoned village Poulouriscraig. Many fine sheep to admire. Great communication from the owner and a generous welcome pack - choice of bread and milk, butter, crisps, orange juice, a large batch of homemade biscuits, and a bottle of wine. The wi-fi is pretty good. Go there.

Beautiful cottage, excellent decor and cleanliness, very comfy beds, i wanted to book somewhere remote to get away from the everyday hustle of life, and this place delivered all of that, plenty of walks and unspoiled beaches all within a few miles. I can’t recommend highly enough.
