Fairholme sits above Comb Beck on the slopes of Whinlatter Forest, in the little known hamlet of Seldom Seen and adjoining the village of Thornthwaite. Fairholme is the end cottage of a small terrace of properties which were converted from a former water driven saw mill dating back to the 1700’s. This is a truly tranquil location for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet is less than 4 miles from a great range of amenities and visitor attractions in Keswick, and 1½ miles from Braithwaite, which has a village shop, pubs and restaurants. A gallery and tea room can also be found 100 yards from the property. The Whinlatter Visitor Centre, in England’s only true mountain forest, is the hub for many activities, including the Whinlatter Wildplay trail designed for children, the longest mountain bike trail in England, forest walks and an osprey viewing point. It also boasts an information centre, forest shop and café. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

On arrival at the cottage we found the bin area was over flowing with bottles and other recycling. We gave it until Tuesday as the was no information on what day bin collections where. I was informed on the phone that was no recycling collection at the moment , I did ask why they had not informed people not to use the bins ,the lady couldn't answer me or even tell me where the household rubbish bin was. Cottage could do with a little t.l.c ,the was damp smell on the stairs, the bathroom was the worst the shower curtain was discussing. On the bonus side the wifi works and the is a tv in everyroom.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fairholme Cottage. The location is very quiet with lots of wildlife (a very friendly pheasant) and the beautiful red squirrels. The cottage is much more spacious than the photographs reflect and it is very well equipped. The decor is lovely and the cottage clean. Can't wait to return.

We had a great stay at Fairholme. A well appointed cottage with everything we needed. The card from the owners was a nice touch. The locals were friendly and welcoming and just a short stroll to Thornthwaite Gallery is well worth a visit. We also took a very up hill walk into the Whinlatter Forest from the cottage. Lovely to have a drink and cake and watch the birds on the feeders when we got there. Keswick is an old favourite with us but did something new this time and visited the theatre by the lake. Well worth it a great production.

Perfect cottage to get away from it all, very spacious and comfortable, everything you could wish for. Walks right on the doorstep up to Whinlatter forest park and down to Bassenthwaite lake. Nice touches from the owner on arrival. Would definitely stay here again.
