Fosdyke Cottage has been tastefully decorated throughout and has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and homely stay. We found it to be spotlessly clean throughout and finding milk and cookies in the fridge was a lovely welcoming touch. The owners are super friendly and helpful and gave us lots of ideas for places to eat and visit during our holiday. Skinningdale isn't the prettiest location, but is an honest northern mining village and has an absolute hidden gem of a beach - we were blown away when we wandered down there on the first night :-) To conclude, Fosdyke Cottage is the perfect base for a fabulous holiday, really good value for money and less than half an hours drive to loads of great places to visit.

The cottage isn't a cottage its a terraced house. It is in a row of scruffy houses with an unmade back street that's full of rubbish. The property itself was ok, could have been cleaner but was comfortable and had everything we needed. The area is like a run down pit village and the walk to the beech( which is nice ) saw us dodging the dog mess which was truly disgusting. One of the neighbours spent 2 nights playing thrash metal and howling along like a banshee. It was quite intimidating really. On the plus side it is close to some nice walks out of the village.

Very nice little cottage located on the beautiful Yorkshire Moors. Located in the small village of Skinningrove which is far enough away from Whitby to not be disturbed by the masses but not so far away that travelling there for the day is a nuisance. The cottage is very well presented, modern and has all of the amenities you could ask for. Everything is provided for you, down to milk and biscuits (and not just any biscuits...! (M&S)). You can tell that this is a well-loved cottage, as it has a lot of character and even has a wood burner which was very nice to have on in the evening after a day at the sea-side. If you want to go exploring in Skinningrove you can find (in our opinion) one of the nicest and best-hidden beaches on the Yorkshire coast, it was absolutely beautiful and a treat to walk up and down in the sun with our daughter. The village itself is small and out-of-the-way, meaning that you won't be kept up at night by partying neighbours; the only thing to bear in mind is that one of the next door neighbours is a pensioner who has her TV on unbelievably loud from pretty much dawn until late evening, so you may be kept awake by it until she decides to call it a night. There's a small shop around the corner with a post-office in it which sells pretty much everything you'd need - including freshly made pies, sausage rolls, cakes, etc. One point to note is that the cottage backs on to a large patch of allotments and you're going to get woken up by a cockerel at 0500! But I guess it adds to the Yorkshire experience! The value for money of this cottage cannot be understated; we will certainly be visiting again. My only niggle - and this is a small one - is that the floors had not been hoovered/swept before we arrived; there was fluff/fur and very visible dust on the floor in the downstairs rooms which made us feel that the cottage wasn't as clean as we were expecting. It's not a massive deal, but it made us feel like we were renting someone's house who had left in a hurry and not necessarily a holiday cottage. I don't know, it's not a deal-breaker, but if I was renting my cottage I would certainly have made the effort to do this as it was visible pretty much as soon as we walked through the front door and gave the impression that the house hadn't been cleaned properly before our arrival. (Maybe it's just my OCD...) But overall I'd give the cottage an 8/10 - we'd definitely visit again and we were glad we chose this cottage from a cast of many. Thanks :-)

Fantastic cottage, beautifully decorated & fittings....but felt the adult bedroom should be at the front of hs with more space to move! Lovely beach walks totally spoilt by dog mess everywhere!!....also very dissapointed nothing open to go and eat or drink over the new year!! Overall would deffo use the cottage again but not over new year!!

Lovely dog friendly accommodation. Just a short walk from the beach which was very clean with many friendly dogs and owners. We couldn’t get the central heating on but had an open fire instead which was gorgeous. Many thanks for the milk and biscuits.
