Gable End is a traditional Yorkshire farm cottage, in a contemporary sort of way! Surrounded by the farm’s moor flock of Swaledale and Cheviot sheep, the property offers traditional and cosy features like comfy sofas, velvet cushions, a wood burner and exposed beams, along with extras such as broadband, USB plug sockets and a Smart Freesat TV. Owned by the Sherratt-Wordsworth family since the 1930s, the dwelling has been redesigned for its new life as a holiday cottage, removing a wall to make a light-filled, open and airy downstairs, and creating a new staircase for better access to the upper twin bedroom, with its skylight gazing up to the stars. The cottage has also been renovated from top to bottom with a blend of farmhouse and Georgian furniture and Victorian pictures. There are two lovely bedrooms – one with a kingsize bed, the other with either two 3 foot singles or a super kingsize bed – and a charming bathroom with both bath and shower. You will find Gable End a lovely, comfortable and cosy place to unwind and recharge your batteries.
Situated on the edge of the moors, it is also a fantastic place to walk or stroll from – two dogs are most welcome – or to go cycling in all the hills you could ask for! What’s more, being just a mile from Goathland and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, less than 10 miles from Whitby and Pickering, and just an hour from York, the cottage makes a perfect base to explore all the charms of this scenic and historic part of the country. And to that end, as well as the usual leaflets for local attractions, we have put together our own file with lesser known and lovely things to do and see in the area, so your stay here can be all the more special. Beach 9 miles. Shop ¾ mile, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
Gable End Cottage can be booked together with Tilly’s Cottage (ref 27184) to accommodate up to 10 guests.

Lovely cottage, well equipped and clean and definitely dog friendly. Slightly further out than we anticipated so we used the car more than we expected to.

Had a great holiday, when we were pleased with how clean and spacious it was. Was more than ample for four adults and a dog. all the amenities you could want, they will let you pull onto the farm yard outside the cottage to unload and then load up when you leave, which was very handy. Then parking right near to cottage, plenty of space for two cars. When we got there we thought oh no!! its miles from the village but the information booklet by the owners gave great directions across the field and onto the track only 15-20 mins walk into Goathland. Really liked the fact it had everything washer, drier, and dishwasher. Nice big fridge freezer as well. Loved the doggy den, it had a gate to stop dog coming into rest of cottage with muddy wet paws and they even left dog bowls and towels, only problem was our dog worked out how to lift latch to open gate but soon solved that by also tying with a ribbon.( he loved sleeping in there on a night.) Garden nice and big and enclosed, and nice seating area to sit out on. owners seemed lovely but they didn't bother us at all but only had to knock on door if we had a problem. milk, biscuits and cake left for our arrival which was lovely. would definitely recommend and will be booking again for next year.

Very relaxing week. Cottage had everything you need, very comfortable. There’s a track to walk into Goathland but need your wellies as boggy when rained. Lovely local pubs and great walks out of Goathland then if you want to jump in your car you have the coast to explore.

Very comfortable and warm cottage, well-designed and equipped for segregating muddy or wet dogs. A couple of minor issues were resolved very quickly and we had a most enjoyable week in May walking and exploring local places of interest. Strongly recommended.

Loved the cottage and the location. Everything you need for a relaxing break. The cottage is very dog friendly and there are lovely walks from the front door. We had lovely weather in the day time but evenings were chilly. The cottage was so cosy and warm and also benefited from a wood burning stove. We would recommend this cottage and will definitely return.

A lovely cottage situated on a working farm .Great views into a field full if sheep and lovely countryside. Very clean and tidy and extremely comfortable.all mod cons including washer dryer dishwasher and central heating. A 5 minute drive to goathland but it can be walked up hill and through flocks of sheep if you're brave enough. The village has 3 pubs and a shop with basic supplies. A lovely walk down to Mallyan spout waterfall and along the trail to beckhole and back out to the village(about 1 h 30 mins). A Perfect place to explore the moors with Danby and the coast within half an hour. Would have no hesitation in booking again.

Our first time staying here and we would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of booking. We are a family of four, two teenage daughters therefore the smart tv and WiFi came in very handy. A cosy, compact cottage with top quality accessories and very comfy beds, overlooking stunning views. We would be back here in a Heartbeat!!

Great little cottage. Clean, well kept and lots of character. Quiet location within walking distance of the village and a 20 min drive to Whitby. Log burning stove was a family favourite. Will definitely return in the not too distant future. Thank you.

We had a great time at the cottage. Warm and cosy with very comfy beds and powerful shower in the bathroom. Great snug area for dogs too. WiFi was good and very nice to have the smart tv so you could watch tv on catch up or watch Netflix. Owners very kind and helpful leaving wonderful cakes and biscuits for our arrival. The area is great for walking and very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely stay again.

What a little gem we've found in this delightful Cosey cottage, very near to Goathland, the walks and scenery are amazing, there's so much to do you can catch the steam train all the way into Pickering or Whitby is only a short drive away. If your taking your four legged friends it's a perfect place as they're really well catered for the dog den in the cottage was ideal as it stopped them from roaming all around the place Charles and Ruth were really lovely and have thought of everything possible to make your holiday perfect,we will definitely want to go back and will be recommending to family and friends.
