Lovely little cottage would stay again

Had a lovely time at Gilmilnscroft Gatehouse. Very comfortable, excellent facilities, and good location to visit places of interest. Highly recommended!

A good cottage but like many other reviewers have stated the cottage did have a smokey smell, which was perhaps our only complaint, along with the fact the path and parking area could do with a weed just to spruce the first impressions up. Although close to the road unlike many other reviewers traffic noise was never an issue. With regard to furnishing it was comfy and very homely I would easily say it was above average for its price and the full bookcases gave it a welcome feel It is well placed for visits to Dunfries House, we liked this place so much we visited the gardens twice. The Isle of Arran was well worth a visit and was easily do able as a day trip, and much cheaper than I had expected. You do not have to go to far to visit other castles and good scenery. If you enjoy walking there are several local walks available without having to travel by car if you just want a gentle stroll.

Gilminscroft was ideally situated to allow us easy access to activities from South to North Ayrshire. Adrian (the host) was very helpful but we found the cottage a little cluttered. The open fire was lovely but we wondered if the chimney needed swept as it was very smoky and sooty. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Had a really comfortable stay. Adrian and Ruben were excellent hosts . Cottage was really good base to explore Ayrshire.

Adrian was a great host, warmly welcoming us and explaining the gatehouse and gardens, as well as giving information on local sights. Having the grounds of the main house to walk was a real bonus, and the location was ideal for us. Despite being by a road, we didn't have any issues with noise from passing traffic. The gatehouse had everything we needed, and was only a few miles from supermarkets. Where we felt the property could be improved was in the areas of general cleanliness, such as the bathroom floor and the eiderdown. These took the edge off the property, and would not be acceptable to everyone, but they didn't prevent us from enjoying our stay at Gilminscroft Gatehouse.

A very comfortable well equipped cottage. Good location for coast and countryside.

Comfortable cottage with shops and other amenities just a couple of miles away plenty of things to do in the area with some lovely walks fairly close. Has economy 7 heating with a couple of free standing heaters that can be moved if needed. Warm welcome given by the owner.
