The Borders Way is 0.25 miles away and there are wonderful walks in every direction. Edinburgh is less than an hour’s drive also the Lake District and Northumberland. Hawick offers a rich heritage with year-round events such as the Reivers’ Festival in March or the Common Riding in June the museums at Drumlanrig’s Tower and Wilton Lodge Park.     The perfect new year break. Peaceful, relaxing and perfectly placed for great walks with the dogs. The cosy cottage had everything we needed and the owners were genuinely lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely visit again!

    Although I'd recommend this cottage I have reservations. There are some strong positives, the location of the cottage being the main one. The cottage is very secluded and isolated, so in theory it is peaceful. It's located about a quarter of a mile up a track, just beyond where the owners live. The track is a touch rough, but a standard family car should have no problems. There are a variety of walks from the door, so there's no need to move the car. There's a hill walk (Ruberslaw) and a variety of woodland strolls. The house is reasonably well equipped and certainly very warm and cosy - the woodburner is very effective at warming the living space (we found that we did not even need the central heating). The main issue we had with the property was the laminate flooring, which had obviously not been fitted properly. So, with (literally) every footstep made there is a groan and creak of plastic wood, loud enough to disturb watching the TV and loud enough to ensure waking anyone asleep if using facilities in the night. A few other points to note - the house is clearly equipped for having baths rather than showers, bring good boots as the surrounding countryside and walks can be rather muddy, and there's only an ice box in the fridge (no separate freezer). On balance, we liked our stay in this cottage.

    country cottage suit couple peaceful but only 10 min drive to Jedburgh or Hawick Lots walks in local area good value and helpful pleasant owners

    Really nice location away from everything. Cottage was very well equipped. And had plenty of space, even for our large dog crate. Had a great week and definitely planning a return trip as there is lots to do in the local area. Rubslaw hill was a bit of a trek from the cottage but the dog and I loved the walk.
