Snowshill is located about 2 miles north of the historic market town of Alnwick.This is a superb area in which to base your holiday as the surrounding countryside is wonderful. With the wild and lonely expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west or to the east, the beautiful 20-mile stretch of Heritage coastline, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just two miles away is the historic market town of Alnwick with its castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts), and is a popular visitor attraction. Take time to visit Alnwick Gardens, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, which includes a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden, as well as a restaurant set in the largest tree house in Europe! Don’t forget to visit Barter Books, and experience the second hand bookshop, set in the former railway station building which has open fires, interactive mural, model railway and café.
On the coast, just over 6 miles away is the picturesque coastal village of Alnmouth, where there is a beautiful stretch of beach, variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and gift shops, a great place to head with the family. Within a short drive are Craster, Dunstanburgh Castle and Newton by the Sea, where you can watch harbour life, shop for kippers, visit the historic castle ruins or take long walks along stunning coastline.
